C4SH Revealed: Everything You Need to Know About the New DLC Vault Hunter in Borderlands 4
A little over two weeks ago Borderlands 4 was released for PC, Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch 2. The game already included the Vault Hunter Pack at launch. This featured the Ornate Order Pack to customize your Vault Hunters and two Story Packs which will release in the future.
The first of these Borderlands 4 Story Packs will introduce the new Vault Hunter C4SH. This DLC was revealed at the Tokyo Game Show and we now also know its release date. Here’s what makes C4SH special and what dice, cards and randomness have to do with him.
Background & Context
As already mentioned, Borderlands 4 had post-launch content like two Story Pack DLCs announced before release. C4SH is the first DLC Vault Hunter and part of Story Pack 1: Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned. If you purchased the Super Deluxe Edition, the Vault Hunter Pack is already included. This contains both Story Packs and customizations for your Vault Hunter. It’s also available as a separate purchase. The DLC releases in the first quarter of 2026.
Character & Lore
C4SH is a former casino dealer robot completely devoted to gambling and probabilities. In his job he served players, dealt cards and witnessed the dynamics of risk. But then he turned his back on that life. C4SH now seeks “probability-breaking highs” – defying probability itself, which is only possible through cursed artifacts etc., so he left his job and now searches for these artifacts. Now he’s a Vault Hunter who uses his knowledge of probability in combat and on his adventures.
C4SH’s style stands out: as a former dealer he loves cards, dice and gambling symbolism. These elements should also visually and mechanically show up in the character. He will be part of Story Pack “Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned”, which offers new missions in a zone of Kairos. The DLC could thematically connect to the game’s supernatural/cosmic elements, like cursed artifacts or mind-control bolts.
Gameplay & Mechanics of C4SH
Like all Vault Hunters in Borderlands 4, C4SH will have three Action Skills to choose from. But his uniqueness lies in each of his Action Skills containing elements of chance. This means effects, buffs, debuffs or damage values can vary. One of his signature abilities is throwing playing cards, which cause different effects like damage, status effects or buffs.
C4SH has three skill trees and each tree contains three branches with passive abilities and modifiers to customize his Action Skills. The passives and modifiers aim to focus on synergies, such as more control over chance and better odds for good effects. With good luck or skilled manipulation of luck, C4SH can be especially strong. But with bad luck, his abilities can quickly become weak.
DLC Content
Now that we’ve talked a lot about the new Vault Hunter, let’s briefly touch on Story Pack 1. This Story Pack brings a new zone to Kairos with new main and side missions. It also includes exclusive weapons, skins, cosmetics and vehicle paints. In addition, the new area will feature new enemy types, boss fights and loot events. And of course, you’ll unlock the new Vault Hunter C4SH, no luck required.
