With questions left unanswered after her mother’s passing, she ventures into the forbidden lands of Aladiss, determined to uncover the lost history of alchemy and restore its forgotten legacy.
Atelier Yumia is the bold and right new direction for this series. While it took time to adjust to the action combat, it is unlike anything I’ve played before and quite fun. The world is filled to the brim with content everywhere, though it lacks traditional cities. Meanwhile, the story and characters are incredibly memorable, feeling like what Tales of Arise should have been.
At the end of the day, Atelier Yumia is a strong entry in the beloved JRPG franchise. Despite a few growing pains, it adopts the cozy and niche franchise into something more digestible for a wider audience thanks to a well-executed open-world format, modern takes on iconic features, and an engaging, untraditional story.
It may be a lengthy RPG, but Atelier Yumia doesn’t bog you down with an hours-long intro. Meanwhile, battle and exploration are both remarkably brisk, making for an experience that’s easy and fulfilling to play if you don’t have a ton of free time to spare.
