Borderlands 4 Switch 2 Port Has Been Cancelled
Take Two Interactive spokesperson Alan Lewis revealed that the development of Borderlands 4 Switch 2 port is indefinitely paused.
Borderlands 4 was initially announced to release on Nintendo Switch 2 in October of last year. However, by the end of September, Take Two Interactive announced that they are delaying it as the team needs more time polishing it.
As pre-orders had already begun, all existing orders were subsequently cancelled and refunded. This alone signaled to many that the end was not in sight. Although no new launch date was provided, confirmation that development was ongoing helped reassure fans.
Unfortunately, those hopes have since faded as development on Borderlands 4 on Switch 2 has now been paused indefinitely.
Borderlands 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Port Shelved
In a recent interview with Variety, Take-Two spokesperson Alan Lewis shared that they have decided to pause development of the Borderlands 4 Switch 2 port. He also mentioned that their focus for now is to provide quality post-launch content and further game optimization. So while Switch 2 isn’t happening, fans can expect more to come to the game moving forward.
To mark this final decision, Borderlands 4 is no longer part of the Take Two’s upcoming games chart which it used to be part of, along with GTA VI and WWE 2K26.
While Lewis didn’t share any additional details about the cancellation, reliable leaker NateTheHate said the team ultimately felt the Switch 2 port was simply too much to take on, with the extra time and investment needed already considered “too high compared to its sales potential.”
Thinking more about it too, Borderlands 4 already has issues on more powerful hardware so making it work on Switch 2 does seem like an uphill battle.
