The new World of Warcraft expansion, titled “The War Within,” will consist of three expansions starting in 2024. It introduces the Earth Dwarf playable race, along with various new features and content.
Overwatch 2 sees its first Samoan hero Mauga join the Overwatch 2 roster on December 5, coinciding with the launch of Season 8.
BLIZZCON 202: ALL MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENTS
BlizzCon 2023 was the first since the Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard. It was packed with reveals and announcements and included new trailers, expansion plans, and a new Overwatch 2 hero.
So, let’s look at all the major news from Blizzard’s event.
WORLD OF WARCRAFT
There was big news for WoW fans as The Worldsoul Saga was officially announced, involving three new expansions beginning in 2024.
The first expansion is called “The War Within” and will take place in the underground kingdoms of Azeroth. It will add new raids and dungeons, a new War Bands community feature, and a treasure-hunting activity.
It’s also going to add the Earth Dwarf playable race for both Alliance and Horde, which will unlock after completing a series of Earthen quests.
As for World of Warcraft Classic, Cataclysm is coming, which will change and transform Azeroth forever.
With the Cataclysm expansion comes the Worgen and Goblin playable races, the Archaeology skill, and many new questlines and stories.
WoW Classic: Cataclysm will launch by August 31, 2024.
NEW OVERWATCH 2 HERO
Overwatch 2 is getting its first Samoan hero with Mauga, a tank character with artillery weapons and a charge skill called “Overrun.”
Mauga joins the Overwatch 2 roster on December 5, the same date Season 8 launches.
DIABLO TABLETOP RPG
For those who love their Diablo and tabletop RPGs, Diablo is getting its own TTRPG inspired by Diablo 4.
The game will be available to pre-order on Kickstarter, with the core book released sometime in the fall of 2024.
HEARTHSTONE: SHADOW IN THE BADLANDS
Hearthstone is going Wild West in Shadow in the Badlands, the new expansion releasing on November 14.
The expansion will feature the origin stories of Reno Jackson and Elise Starseeker, and will see the new “Catch-Up Packs” introduced.
Catch-Up Packs are a new type of Hearthstone pack that offers up to 50 cards from the last two years of the game’s expansions. These will help returning and new players get up to speed with the latest cards.
WARCRAFT RUMBLE
Blizzard’s newest mobile game, Warcraft Rumble, got new launch and cinematic trailers. It released for Android and iOS on November 3.
It’s described as a mobile strategy game set in the Warcraft Universe. Players will collect and battle Warcraft Minis to climb leaderboards and earn rewards.
