Insider Gaming reports that the project survived the latest round of cuts. Ubisoft is currently re-evaluating its entire portfolio, yet BGE2 remains protected under a new management strategy designed to save its sinking flagships.

BGE2 Costs: 17 Years and $500 Million
The development stats for this game are bordering on the absurd. Since its 2008 reveal, the title has spent over 6,400 days in production, costing Ubisoft an estimated $500 million without a single frame of public gameplay in years.
To stop the bleeding, Ubisoft moved the team into a “Creative House” dedicated to immersive narratives. This specialized unit now handles BGE2 alongside Rayman and Might & Magic, hoping to finally turn a decade of burnout into a shippable product.
Ubisoft has spent too much to quit now. With over half a billion dollars sunk into the project, they are trapped in a “sunk cost” loop, betting that a massive launch can eventually recoup the deficit.
