With one week left before Halloween, most of us have probably sorted out the treats, decorations, and costumes. But while the kids will be busy trick-or-treating around the neighborhood, that won’t take up the whole day. So, why not bring the festivities inside the house with some of the best Halloween video games for kids?

From hunting ghosts in a haunted hotel to exploring spooky mansions and battling silly zombies, these games offer plenty of Halloween fun inside the house.

BEST GAMES TO BUY FOR KIDS AT HALLOWEEN

Luigi’s Mansion 3

Rating: PEGI 7 and ESRB E10+

What better way to celebrate Halloween than by checking into a haunted hotel? In Luigi’s Mansion 3, Mario and his friends go missing during a stay at the Last Resort, leaving Luigi to face his fears and rescue them. Armed with his trusty Poltergust G-00, Luigi must vacuum up ghosts, solve puzzles, and explore themed hotel floors filled with spooky surprises. He can also team up with Gooigi, his green doppelgänger, to get past obstacles and reach places he can’t manage alone.

Kids can play through the main adventure solo or enjoy two-player co-op, while the ScareScraper and ScreamPark modes offer more ghost-hunting challenges and multiplayer mini-games. With its cartoon-style scares, clever puzzles, and charming humor, this is a great pick for kids who enjoy a little Halloween spookiness without anything too frightening.

Costume Quest 2

Rating: PEGI 7 and ESRB E10+

Halloween is all about costumes and candy, and Costume Quest 2 brings both into a fun role-playing adventure. Players join siblings Wren and Reynold as they travel through spooky locations and even different periods in time to stop a group of dental-themed villains from ruining Halloween. The best part is that the costumes are more than just dress-up outfits. Each one transforms the characters into powerful heroes with special abilities for turn-based battles.

Kids can also collect candy, discover new costumes, and use special Treat Cards to gain an advantage against their enemies. With its playful take on Halloween traditions, colorful world, and lighthearted humor, Costume Quest 2 is a fun choice for kids who enjoy exploring, collecting items, and taking on silly villains.

Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville

Rating: PEGI 7 and ESRB E10+

If your kids prefer goofy monsters over traditional Halloween ghosts, Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville is worth checking out. The game brings players into a colorful suburban town caught in a ridiculous conflict between plants and zombies, where familiar characters use all kinds of unusual abilities to battle each other. There are 20 customizable character classes, several competitive multiplayer modes, and free-roam areas to explore, including Weirding Woods and Mount Steep.

Kids can also visit Giddy Park, a social area where they can hang out and play with friends. While the game is more action-focused than spooky, its cartoonish zombies, funny character designs, and playful atmosphere make it a fitting choice for Halloween gaming. Keep in mind that its online multiplayer features involve playing with other people, so parents may want to review the available settings and decide what works best for their kids.

The Addams Family: Mansion Mayhem

Rating: PEGI 7 and ESRB E10+

For families who love the kooky world of the Addams Family, The Addams Family: Mansion Mayhem is a fun way to spend Halloween at home. This 3D platforming adventure follows Wednesday, Pugsley, Gomez, and Morticia as they explore their unusual family mansion, solve puzzles, and uncover its hidden history. Each character has special abilities that help players get past obstacles, from Gomez’s Mazurka Saber to Wednesday’s pet octopus, Socrates. The game also features competitive mini-games, giving family members a chance to challenge one another between levels. Best of all, up to four players can play together on the same screen, making it a good option for family game night.

One important note though is that the game was delisted in December 2025 due to licensing expiration so it is no longer available through its usual digital storefronts. However, game keys may still be available through third-party key-selling stores.

Pumpkin Jack

Rating: PEGI 12 and ESRB Teen

For older kids and teens who enjoy a more challenging adventure, Pumpkin Jack delivers a spooky Halloween experience with plenty of platforming and combat. Players take on the role of Jack, the Mythical Pumpkin Lord, who is sent on a quest to help Evil defeat Good. Along the way, he travels through eerie, colorful landscapes, jumps across tricky platforms, battles strange creatures, and solves puzzles involving physics, gravity, and reflection. Some challenges even let players use Jack’s flaming pumpkin head to burn books or interact with objects in unusual ways.

The game’s cartoon-inspired visuals give it a spooky look without relying on realistic horror, but its combat and platforming can be demanding for younger players. That makes it a better fit for teens or experienced young gamers who want something more challenging this Halloween. With its quirky characters, creative puzzles, and classic 3D platforming, Pumpkin Jack is a fun pick for anyone looking for a slightly spookier gaming experience.
