EA DICE has recently released Title Update 4.1 in Battlefield 2042, bringing a host of improvements, changes, and more.
Breakthrough has received a significant change with the update, with the developers removing the 128-player version.
DICE explained that 128 players are better suited for Conquest which has larger gameplay space, and is where sandbox play can fit more naturally.
They added that the 64-player Breakthrough version gives players a more tactical experience as it not only provides more space for players to work together and do their roles, but also allows them to better hold their frontlines more effectively.
The move to instead have a 64-player Breakthrough will allow squads to “have a better opportunity to work together, to flank the enemy, place a spawn beacon, use their plus menu to attach suppressors, then clear, and hold a point,” according to DICE.
“We believe that the move to 64 players will bring back the pacing that helps celebrate these moments of teamwork and PTFOing, and will be keeping a close eye on how our changes help to improve the experience ahead of the start of Season 1.”
The developers added that players will then see the following set map sizes for specific maps in Breakthrough 64 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S:
Also coming early June is Battlefield 2042 Season 1 which is set to add new content to the game.
