Baldur’s Gate 3 Official Cross-Platform Mod Support

Larian Studios, the developer behind Divinty: Original Sin 2 and 2022 Game of the Year Baldur’s Gate 3, has confirmed they are working on official cross-platform mod support for BG3.

When Is Baldur’s Gate 3 Official Mod Support Coming?

In a tweet on X, Larian Studios director of publishing Michael Douse revealed the rollout of hotfix 19, which works on fixing bugs and community-submitted issues. He later followed up by revealing a robust, cross-platform plan for mod support will be available later in the year.

Mods are not new for Baldur’s Gate 3, as PC players have been using it since the game launched last year, modding the game to alter and add spells, playable races, and items, and even increase party size and carry weight.

The problem comes with every patch, or hotfix Larian Studios produces, as a new version Baldur’s Gate 3 often leaves many mods incompatible with the game for a long periods of time until modders themselves release new versions of their mods. This frustrates players who must then decide to stop playing the game until a newer version of their mods are released or continue on without them.

It’s an issue that Larian Studios has acknowledged, and WombatMedic, the company’s senior community strategist posted on Discord calling it a large task which they are currently hard at work on. “We are working on official mod support, and have been for a while. We want the very best for you, which includes establishing a pipeline that lets mod authors release their mods across different platforms.”

The devs have not given a timeline on when to expect the official mod support to drop, but they have said it will come with the next big patch.
