ASUS ROG hardware and memory modules facing sharp price increases due to global DRAM shortages

The clock is ticking for PC gamers. ASUS has officially confirmed a series of “strategic price adjustments” across its product lineup effective January 5, 2026. This move marks a critical turning point in a year already defined by a brutal memory shortage.

Why ASUS Prices Are Rising

The culprit behind the hike is the insatiable hunger of the AI industry. High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) required for AI servers uses the same production lines as standard consumer RAM. Currently, every 1GB of AI memory manufactured effectively “deletes” 3GB of consumer RAM supply.

This supply-chain cannibalism has sent DRAM prices soaring by over 170% since late 2025. ASUS, having “absorbed cost pressures over an extended period,” can no longer shield consumers from the fallout.

ROG Ally and Laptops: The Affected Hardware

While the official ASUS letter to partners mentions “certain product portfolios,” industry experts and internal leaks clarify the scope. Any device pre-equipped with high-speed memory or storage is on the chopping block:

  • ROG Ally Handhelds: Expected to see immediate price jumps as integrated memory costs surge.
  • Gaming Laptops: High-end ROG and TUF models will likely see MSRP increases of 15% to 20%.
  • Pre-built Desktops: Systems shipping with 32GB or 64GB of RAM face the heaviest hits.

In a desperate bid to keep entry-level gaming alive, ASUS is reportedly ramping up production for older DDR4 motherboards (AM4 and LGA 1700). By pivoting back to legacy tech, the company hopes to offer gamers a budget-friendly escape from the DDR5 “pricing apocalypse.”

In Conclusion: The ASUS Pricing Reality

If you are eyeing an ASUS laptop or a storage upgrade, the “Rational Gamer” strategy is clear: buy before January 5. We are seeing a market where some used components, like the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, are now more expensive than brand-new current-gen chips simply because they use cheaper DDR4 memory.

Waiting for a price drop is a gamble that likely won’t pay off until late 2026 or early 2027. With brands like Dell already hiking prices by 30%, the ASUS adjustment is just the first domino to fall in a very expensive new year.

Will you be rushing to grab a deal this week, or are you prepared to stick with your current rig until the AI boom stabilizes?
