Assassin’s Creed Codename Hex is set to be a different kind of Assassin’s Creed game. Join us as we explore a few details and what could be in store for us with Ubisoft’s next flagship title.
First revealed in 2022 as Project Hexe, Assassin’s Creed Hexe was among a number of other Assassin’s Creed games announced to be in the works by Ubisoft, including Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, set to release by the end of 2025.
As for Assassin’s Creed Hexe, there are definitely plenty of rumors and unconfirmed reports coming from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, a reliable insider who has confirmed leaks on games like GTA 6, is that Hexe will be set during the 16th Century Holy Roman Empire and possibly the witch trials from that era.
It’s key to note that although Ubisoft has not confirmed these reports, Ubisoft game designer Marc-Alexis Côté described it as a “very different type of Assassin’s Creed game.” That, of course, could mean anything, but a setting during one of the darkest times in human history with witch trials would definitely make it a darker Assassin’s Creed game than what we are accustomed to.
The only actual bit of information we have to go off is its trailer, which only lasts 30 seconds and only shows us an Assassin’s Creed logo, presumably made from twigs or sticks, hanging from a tree in a dark, wooded area. That’s it. No characters, no story, no release date.
And that’s where we are. It may not seem like a lot, but the trailer suggests a dark theme, game designer Côté promises a very different Assassin’s Creed game, and if Schreier is right about the 16th Century setting, we’re definitely in for one of the most memorable games in a series that has so many iconic moments already.

I’m really interested in this Assassin’s creed because of the era it covers, and that is the main selling point of AC games, your fav ones are always the ones in a location or era that you like. This one being on the dark witchcraft period of Europe may bring some fresh air to the saga. You will supposedly play a witch and assassin so this will bring new ways to get rid of the enemies and new gameplay options for sure. Can’t wait to cast deadly curses on the objectives.
