As in previous titles, you can construct buildings and roads. In Pax Romana, you can now place them diagonally, allowing for more creative city layouts. Production buildings in your city also now provide certain bonuses to your population within a radius. Naval gameplay has also been completely redesigned. Ships can now be configured modularly, such as sails, oars, or weapon loadouts. The era was also deeply religious, so you can worship different gods, which affects your cities and citizens.
The game is primarily oriented toward peaceful gameplay. However, alongside the classic city-building mechanics, there are both diplomatic and military paths. There are also land and naval battles. Anno 117: Pax Romana aims to appeal to both veterans and new players, making it the perfect city-builder for everyone.
