Sekiro Shadows Die Twice Bags Game of the Year Award in Steam Awards

Over the holidays Valve was able to reveal who the winners are for the fourth Steam Awards. Steam lets users vote for their favorite games in eight different categories which include Game of the Year and Best Game You Suck At. Game of the Year went to Sekiro Shadows Die Twice, Mortal Kombat 11 won Best Game You Suck At, DayZ won the Better With Friends award and GTA 5 won the Labor of Love award because of Rockstar’s continued support for GTA Online. Trials Rising Polar Expedition Track Pack Out Now

Five new tracks had been added to Trials Rising and it is part of the Polar Expedition Track Pack. It includes the Permafrost which is set in Greenland, Glacial Mess that has a lot of icebergs, Inuit’s Paradise that has a beautiful Aurora Borealis in the sky, Out Cold is a military station with a blizzard, and Inferno which is the toughest track of them all is based on the final level of Hell that is covered in ice. Trials Rising is now available on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch.


CS:GO Reaches More Than 760,000 Players Over the Holidays

It seems that there had been a lot of CS:GO players over the holidays as the game was able to reach the highest player peak since 2017 having over 760,000 players. The reason behind this was not really clear as there had been no special event during that time. Usually, player counts go up during events like the recent Shattered Web or the coveted Eleague Major.


Alice Soft Reveals Official Name of Their Dohna Dohna Game

As 2020 came in, Alice Soft officially announced the name of their Dohna Dhona game which is Dohna Dohna Isshou ni Warui Koto wo Shiyou that translates to Dohna Dohna Let’s do Evil Stuff Together. The game is set to launch exclusively on the PC this year. The game had been first mentioned in 2017 with a few announcements about it over the years. This could be the biggest RPG from the studio after Evenicle 2 which launched in February 2019.


Dragon Quest 12 Production Announced

Dragon Quest 12 is in development as announced by series creator Yuji Horii in his New Year’s message. In his message, he said that he is happy that he is able to do challenges for the series that he then itemizes including the Dragon Quest movie, having Dragon Quest 11 on the Switch and doing the production of Dragon Quest 12. The mention Dragon Quest 12 in his message seems that everybody already knew about it. Horri further adds that DQ12 won’t be launching any time soon.


Portal’s Secret Mechanic “F-Stop” Revealed

A secret mechanic of Portal’s prequel that was not released has been finally shared. The mechanic was called “F-Stop” and was never used in the game since it did not see the light of day. This had all been revealed, however, since a developer, LunchHouse Software used the Source Engine for this in their own game called Punt which is also a puzzler like Portal. “F-Stop” is based on the “Aperture Camera” that is able to copy, paste, and rescale items in the world.


Final Fantasy 7 Remake Demo Include Spoilers

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake demo apparently has leaks and it is spreading all over the internet. The Final Fantasy 7 Remake demo was set to launch sometime in the future for PlayStation 4, however, some hacked consoles were able to already see the demo on Sony’s server and were able to download it at an earlier time. Along with the demo’s code are the files beyond the game that includes the spoilers. The spoilers can be seen on YouTube.


LPL Spring Split 2020 Will Open With an Explosive Match Up

The LPL Spring Split 2020 will be having an explosive start with the opening match having the two best teams in the world – Invictus Gaming and FunPlus Phoenix. The two teams are hoping to set the tone of the rest of the split with their match. Both teams were able to dominate the international scene over the past two years, and they wanted to show the world that they are ready for their challengers. The LPL Spring Split 2020 will start on January 13.


Splatoon Shares an Ominous New Year Greeting

Arena shooter Splatoon shared a new year message which said “Have A Great 2020” it was written as such that the tranquil waters below it show its reflection as “S.O.S” with a lifebuoy beside it. The message accompanying the image read “It seems that Grizzco is recruiting for part-time work even this early on New Year’s Day. If you would be so kind, why not join in the first haul of the new year? Please look after us this year as well.” We are excited to know more about what is to come.


Stalker 2 will be Using Unreal Engine 4

GSC Gameworld was announced that their upcoming game Stalker 2 will be using the Unreal Engine 4. This is because it is “the most suitable choice for us” stated the studio. This move gives the studio the opportunity to reach their goal for the game which includes modding to be easily accessible. Since Unreal Engine 4 is owned by Epic Games, people are speculating if Stalker 2 will be an Epic Games Store exclusive.


NBA 2K18 Servers Will Close This Month

If you are still playing NBA 2K18 online, you won’t be able to after January 18, 2020. According to 2K Games, anything in the game that uses VC will be affected. This would include all the other online functions which are MyTeam, and online matches. Players, however, will still be able to play the offline quick games like the MyGm and MyCareer. Players will then earn SP instead of VC. This shouldn’t come as a surprise as NBA 2K17 was pulled offline by the start of 2019.


Metro Redux Rated for the Nintendo Switch in Europe

PEGI has posted a new listing for Metro Redux on the Nintendo Switch, implying that the game could be coming to the console in the future. There’s no official announcement from 4A Games and Nintendo, though, so this should be taken with a grain of salt. Metro Redux was launched for PC, PS4, and Xbox One and features remastered editions of Metro 2033 and its sequel, Metro: Last Light.


Animal Crossing: New Horizons Gets Latest Trailer

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has received a new trailer, featuring Tom Nook who is one of the major characters in the game. The trailer shows the tanuki/racoon giving a presentation about the “Deserted Island Getaway Package” with the animal villagers in attendance. It then proceeds to show footage of the said island, plus things the villagers can do in it. Animal Crossing: new Horizons will be launching on March 20th for the Nintendo Switch.


Minecraft Servers Not Shutting Down, Contrary to Prank

Prank site Channel45news.com published a “story” which says Minecraft is shutting down its servers on December 21, 2020. This website allows anyone to generate a fake headline, and in Minecraft’s case, it says, “Minecraft will shut down their servers in late 2020.” Microsoft community manager Helen Zbihlyj tweeted a clarification saying, “Minecraft is NOT stopping, Mojang is NOT closing,” which is fortunate considering how Minecraft’s huge player base tweeted replies of disappointment to the fake news.


The Witcher 3 Has Broken 100k Concurrent Players for the First Time

The Witcher 3’s concurrent player count on Steam has skyrocketed even more as it breaks the 100,000 mark for the first time since it launched. The game has beaten Destiny 2, Path of Exile, Football Manager 2020, and Team Fortress 2 in the ranking. As we all know, The Witcher series on Netflix had gamers going back to the video game version, and the bard’s song even made it to pop culture, sprouting memes and dozens of remixes, and even getting added as a song in Beat Saber.


Puzzle Side-scroller The Pedestrian Launching January 29th

After spending several years in development, and successfully completing a Kickstarter campaign, developer Skookum Arts is set to release its side-scrolling puzzle game, The Pedestrian on January 29th. The indie game uses public signs and symbols as its environment, with the player controlling a human figure. Players need to move around the signs and connect them to each other using lines; the human figure can then move to the next signage through a ladder or a door. A demo is available over at itch.io, if you want to give it a try.


Skyrim Grandma NPC Mod Coming Out This Year

Shirley Curry, the 80-year-old ‘Skyrim Grandma’ from YouTube, is being made into an NPC for Skyrim through a mod. Those awaiting Shirley’s arrival to the game will be happy to know that the mod will be available early this year. One of the developers, phantom_scribbler, has released a teaser on Reddit showing how Shirley follows around the player’s character and comes with her own quests, interactions, and observations just like any other follower in the game. Shirley will be voiced by none other than Shirley Curry herself.


Final Fantasy 7 Remake Could Be Coming to PC, Leak Suggests

Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s demo had dataminers leaking information here and there, and the latest hints at a PC port for the game. According to dataminers, the demo includes a PC code, plus mentions of additional resolutions and references to Nvidia and AMD. The game’s box art also says it’s a PS4 Timed Exclusive until March 3, 2021, although Square Enix revealed back at E3 2019 that they have no plans of releasing the game to other platforms. Whatever the PC codes mean could be anybody’s guess until we hear official word from Square Enix themselves.


Fortnite is 2019’s Top Digital Game

SuperData has released its 2019 report, and it’s no surprise at all to find out that Fortnite is 2019’s biggest digital game. The firm reported that Fortnite has generated a total of 1.8 billion Dollars in revenue in 2019. SuperData’s report also shows 80% of money players spent on video games goes to free-to-play digital titles, with 74% of that figure coming from mobile. For premium games, FIFA 19 was the biggest earner.


COD League to Hold Fewer Events in 2020

Call of Duty pro events are getting scaled down, as confirmed by eSports reporter Adam Stern on Twitter. According to Stern, the COD League will “hold fewer events in 2020 than originally anticipated, as part of its switch back to a tournament model.” Stern added that this move was made in part due to teams becoming overwhelmed at the thought of “hosting both CDL and @OverwatchLeague events.” The new Call of Duty League season kicks off January 24th in Minnesota.


Analyst Predicts Nintendo Will Release a Switch Pro This Year

Katan Games CEO Dr. Serkan Toto predicts that Nintendo will be launching a “Switch pro” this year. Toto believes Nintendo will be releasing the Pro version in response to the release of next-gen consoles Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X. Toto was known to have successfully predicted the release of Switch Lite last year. We’ll see if his prediction comes true this year.


Riot Games is Most-Watched Twitch Channel in 2019

Riot Games has been named as the most-watched Twitch channel in 2019. The channel’s viewership was driven largely by League of Legends esports coverage, including the League Championship Series (LCS) and League European Championships (LEC). In addition to this, the official Riot Games channel provided an English-language coverage of the World Championship, which saw a peak of more than 630,000 viewers.
