Riot is Developing New Games
For the longest time, Riot Games has only be known for one game, League of Legends. But now, the studio has announced that they are developing new titles, even joking that they’re putting the ‘S’ back into “Riot Games”. Riot co-founder Marc Merrill says they plan to release a handful of games every decade. They’re looking into anything hardcore gamers are looking for, even a possible League of Legends MMO. Riot has not announced any specific titles, but it’ll be interesting to see what they’ll come up with.
The Walking Dead: The Final Season Launches Online Story Builder
Telltale Games has launch a new interactive website that allows players to relive impactful decision-making moments in the first 2 seasons of The Walking Dead. This will allow players to change certain decisions they might have regretted making in their previous playthroughs. Once done, players can log into their Telltale Games account and lock in their choices for when they play The Final Season. Alternatively, players can also just import their save games from the first 2 seasons when The Final Season launches.
NBA 2K18 Hits Franchise Sales Record
Take-Two Interactive has announced that NBA 2K18 has now sold more than 10 million units, selling more than any other title in the franchise before it. CEO Strauss Zelnick says that the game is “a testament to the tireless hard work and innovation of the team at Visual Concepts.” The game is currently available for PC, Xbox One, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360 and PS3. The 10 million units sold figure is especially impressive, if not bizarre, seeing as how the game has a “Mostly Negative” rating on Steam.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider Shows Deadly and Dark Tombs in New Trailer
Square Enix has just launched a new trailer for Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The teaser gives us a glimpse of some of the tombs Lara will find herself exploring on her final adventure in the rebooted series. It’s definitely worth mentioning how the lighting effects give the different caves and temples the intimidating vibe that they have. The atmosphere is definitely deadly. The game has also gone gold very recently and is on schedule for its September 14th release on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
The Long Dark Episode 3 Releases This December
Hinterland Studio has revealed that The Long Dark will be getting a third episode in December. Not only that, they’ll also be releasing “Redux” editions of the first two episodes or those new to the series or those wanting to replay them before playing the third. Episode 3 will star Dr. Astrid Greenwood and is set right after the aftermath of the events of Milton. The Redux episodes will include fully voiced and animated NPC dialogue, more open and flexible mission structure, and a host of other improvements.
Overwatch Summer Games Return
Mark your calendars as the Overwatch Summer Games is making a comeback this August 9th. The announcement was made via their official Twitter handle. Every year the Overwatch Summer Games has a different theme, the very first one was an Olympic theme having the characters wear different outfits from the summer Olympic sports. Last year’s theme was all about a summer vacation where we saw Widowmaker dawn a skimpy beachwear. This year’s theme is not specified yet, we will know soon what it will be.
Gloomhaven Coming to PC
The popular 4-player board game Gloomhaven is headed to PC. Asmodee Digital, who specializes in porting real-world board games to digital formats, made the announcement at Gen Con. Gloomhaven is considered by many enthusiasts as one of the best board games to ever be released and has one numerous awards. The game lets players use 17 playable classes in 95 unique scenarios. Asmodee says they want their port of the game to be more of an adaptation than a straight copy. Let’s hope they get it right.
Call of Duty World War II Gets a Sandbox Map
The Call of Duty: WW 2’s Days of Summer event is here and with it came a special map called Sandbox. This map has a thirty-days exclusivity for the PlayStation 4 and will be available for PC and Xbox One after the thirty-day mark. This seasonal map is a micro map where players will be playing in a literal sandbox as tiny plastic soldiers. It is actually really entertaining as you will have to duck behind a sand pail, crayons, or even a baseball. This summer event will only last until August 28th.
Pillars of Eternity 2’s Beast of Winter DLC Out Now
The Beast of Winter DLC for Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire has just launched, giving the sea-faring RPG a nordic twist. There are new apocalyptic prophecies to deal with, not to mention an icy dragon who can really bring the end of the world. Along with the expansion, a major patch has also been released, improving the game’s balance and fixing several bugs. A new roaming trading ship has also been added for free via the Deck of Many Things DLC. Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire is currently out on PC.
Dragon Ball FighterZ, Street Fighter 5, and Tekken 7 are Free on Steam During Evo 2018
The biggest fighting game tournament is happening this weekend and it is the Evo 2018. Alongside the event is a free weekend on Steam which offers the big titles on Evo for sale, as well as free to play. The games that are included are Dragon Ball FighterZ, Street Fighter V, Tekken 7 and BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle. Other games not included in Evo but is available on discount are Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator and Injustice 2. This special will run until Monday, August 6th at 10 AM PDT or 1 PM EDT only.
Forza Horizon 4 Showcases Spring, Urban Races, Teams, and More
We’ve seen summer, fall and winter. Now, Playground Games is showing of Forza Horizon 4’s springtime in a new trailer. They also talked about Team Adventure, which is a new team-based version of the Online Adventures from the previous game. The mode pits 2 teams of 6 in up to 5 events, with the team getting 3 wins first declared as the champions. Playground also showed off a new Survival mode, where zombie cars infect survivors by crashing into them, while survivors heal themselves by crashing into other survivors.
The Quiet Man Gameplay to Be Revealed Next Week
Last E3, Square Enix unveiled a new game they’ve been working on called “The Quiet Man”. They showed a teaser that started with live-action actors and then transitioned into what we can only assume to be engine footage. They also teased that they’ll be revealing more about the upcoming title in August. Now, Producer Kensei Fujinaga has announced that they’ll be showing off gameplay footage on a livestream scheduled to happen on August 9th at 1PM BST. You can watch the stream on the publisher’s YouTube channel.
Real Yakuza’s Use A Gamepad According To Sega
Yakuza 0 just launched on PC and Sega put in a splash image in the port that encourages players to use a controller. The recommendation itself isn’t surprising since most third-person action titles do tend to favor controllers, but you’ve got to applaud Sega with how sassy they tell fans their recommended input device. The image simply says “real Yakuza use a gamepad”. For those whose weapon of choice is the classic keyboard and mouse combo, the game does support fully remappable controls, so Sega’s got you covered too.
Dota 2 Has Faulty Loot Boxes Admits Valve
Valve admits having bugged loot boxes in Dota 2. A few days ago, the “Immortal Treasure III” had been released and this new Dota 2 loot box is supposed to contain some rare cosmetics for some of the game’s heroes. However, those who made the purchases were not able to get even one rare item. Valve made an investigation and is rerolling the boxes that players were already able to open and fixing the bugs on those that are not open yet. They will also be adding 10 levels to player’s battle pass.
Destiny 2 Players Delete 800 Million Shaders Collectively Amounts To 25 Years
According to Bungie, players were able to delete a total of eight hundred seven million, six hundred thirty-five thousand, one hundred twenty-four shaders in Destiny 2 to date. And it takes one second to delete a shader, so collectively it has taken twenty-five point six years to achieve this said Reddit user SlickeryV. Shaders are used to change the color of armor sets but changes led to them being used only once. A new update called Forsaken will have the option to mass delete unwanted shaders.
QuakeCon Keynote To Give Out Freebies
This coming QuakeCon 2018 Keynote, Bethesda will be offering free content to those who are able to link their Bethesda.net/ESO Accounts to Twitch while watching the DOOM Eternal reveal on Twitch.TV/Bethesda. The free stuff includes TESO PC: Flame Atronach Wolf Pet and Ouroboros Crown Crates. For Quake Champions: “Embers” Nameplate & Icon, 2x Reliquarie, 1000 Shards, 3 Day XP Boost. And for The Elder Scrolls: Legends, 1 Legendary Card, Legends Event Ticket, 1 Skyrim Card Pack and 1 Core Card Pack.
World Of Warcraft Players Protest New Plot Development
World of Warcraft Horde players are removing their shoulder armor, or at least using the transmogrification feature to hide them, as a sign of solidarity and support for Saurfang’s epihany. The last cinematic released by Blizzard shows Saurfang removing his shoulder armor in disgust of Sylvanas’ burning of Teldrassil. Player Riizu has taken it a step further and has organized the “Shoulders for Saurfang” movement. They’ll be holding an in-game event that’ll see players march from Orgrimmar to Darkshore.
Steam Flash Sale Will Be Making A Comeback
Tyler McVicker from Valve News Network has revealed that Flash Sales are making a comeback on Steam. The feature was retired around the time easy refunds were introduced. This time around, developers will have the option to make sales last for 6, 8, 10 or 12 hours, with McVicker saying the new system should make Flash Sales feel more like an event. This might result in spikes in refund requests though, since refunding a game because it suddenly got cheaper is one of the more popular reasons for refunds.
Epic Games Removes Fortnite In Google Store
Epic Games was able to confirm that they will be taking off Fortnite in the Google Play store. Tim Sweeney the CEO said that they are doing this in order to avoid the thirty-percent cut that Google gets on in-app purchases through them. Sweeney adds that he thinks that the “amount is disproportionate to the services that Google provides”. Also, another reason for distributing the game Fortnite though its own installer program is to “maintain its direct relationship with consumers.”
New FIFA 19 Sports Team Launched By Ozil
Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has announced that he’ll be launching his very own FIFA-focused eSports team. Ozil is the current FIFA eWorld Cup and his role has allowed him to follow the EA Sports FIFA 18 Global Series. Now, he’s partnering up with eSportsReputation to form his very own team. He’ll be looking to focus on the upcoming FIFA 19, which will be launching on September 28th for PC, Xbox One and PS4. Meanwhile, World Cup fever rages on in London with the 2018 FIFA eWorld Cup.
EA Apologizes For Bleeping Colin Kaepernick in Madden NFL 19
EA admits that they made a mistake in censoring Colin Kaepernick’s name from the Madden soundtrack which disappointed a lot of people. A spokesperson from EA said that some members of the team misunderstood the rights of having used Colin Kaepernick’s name in the game. They did not know that that doesn’t affect the soundtrack. EA apologized to Colin, YG and Big Sean, and to NFL for the mistake. They will be releasing an update for the game on August 6 to uncensor Kaepernick’s name from the soundtrack.

If you’ve been looking for an excuse to fire up Failbetter’s Sunless Sea, here’s a compelling one — modder Enneagon has created an unofficial expansion called Tales of the Grave-Garden that adds 10 new ships, 4 new shops, 2 new Mascots, 3 new titles, and 3 new Officers, each with their own story arcs. There’s also lots of new guns, engines and ship parts. The mod is free to download at the Sunless Sea Nexus Mods site, but you will of course need to already have the game on either Steam or GOG.
