Nioh 2 Open Beta Set in November
Koei Tecmo has announced that they will be holding an open beta for their upcoming action role-playing game Nioh 2 from November 1st until November 10th. The open beta will be available through the PlayStation Store. There won’t be any pre-orders required, as the beta is available for everyone on the PS4. Among the game’s features players can look forward to include a new protagonist which the players themselves will be creating.
Borderlands 3’s PC Player Count Continues to Grow
As expected, Borderlands 3 is off to a great start. Despite it being an Epic Games Store exclusive — which a lot of players frowned upon when the news of the exclusivity broke out — the game has seen twice the concurrent player count when it launched as compared to Borderlands 2. The number appears to be growing more as days go by. Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford shared the good news on Twitter, and went on to say that these numbers greatly exceeds their expectations, and their systems seem to be “holding strong.”
Minecraft Has 112 Million Monthly Players
Microsoft has revealed that Minecraft is enjoying 112 million active players every month. This number is a surge of 21 million from the game’s figures back in October 2018. It also represents players from all platforms, including those playing as part of Xbox Game Pass. Minecraft launched back in 2009 and became a massive hit as well as a pop culture phenomenon. It may have fallen out of the spotlight, but with the numbers presented, it looks like this is still a popular game for fans.
Monster Hunter World’s Horizon Zero Dawn Crossover Drops in November
Capcom presented its content roadmap for Monster Hunter World during the recently concluded Tokyo Game Show 2019. The company mentioned that Monster Hunter World is getting a Horizon Zero Dawn crossover event, and the first quest will drop in November. A second and third quest is expected to arrive in December. The Horizon Zero Dawn crossover will feature Aloy who comes with her bow and full armor set as well as Palico armor.
Gears 5 Operation 2 Launches in December
Gears 5’s Operation 1 is now underway, and it will run until December when Operation 2 launches. Come December, players will expect a huge drop of content for Operation 2 which includes free content such as Versus Modes, Multiplayer Maps, Tiles for Map Builder, New Featured Events, and more. As with Operation 1, players will also get weekly content with Escape Hives, Leaderboard rewards, special events, and supply content. Players can also expect title updates which will be rolled out regularly between Operations.
Modern Warfare’s 32v32 Ground War Mode Coming on September 21st Beta
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Weekend 2 beta is scheduled for September 21st, and players can look forward to experiencing its 32-versus-32 Ground War multiplayer mode. The mode will be playable on the Karst River Quarry Map. Players on all platforms can also access the beta on the mentioned date. It will end on September 23rd. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare officially launches on October 25th.
Keanu Reeves Won’t Be a Romance Option in Cybperpunk 2077
CD Projekt Red has revealed that Keanu Reeves won’t be a romance option in Cyberpunk 2077. In an interview with Video Games Chronicle, level designer Max Pears said, “Keanu plays a crucial role in the game, but as for the option to romance him, I don’t believe you ran”. Players, however, have more diverse romance options in the game. Cyberpunk 2077 will launch in April 2020.
Castle Crashers Remastered Alaso Launching for PS4
The Behemoth has announced that Castle Crashers Remastered will also be launching for the PlayStation 4 the same day as its launch on Nintendo Switch. The game will officially launch on both platforms on September 17th. Castle Crashers Remastered first launched in 2015 for the Xbox One. The remastered version ups the FPS to 60 and considerable enhances the game’s textures. All previously released DLC are already included and unlockable in the remaster.
Zenith Announced for Switch
Action RPG Zenith is heading to the Nintendo Switch, three years after it launched on PC and PlayStation 4. It will be available digitally starting September 20th. It will also have a physical version which will come with “a series of extras.” Zenith stars the protagonist Argus who’s a magician. He has access to spells, and his world is full of puzzles, magic, and monsters.
Crossout Gets Host of New Content From Latest Update
Post-apocalyptic vehicle combat game Crossout has received a new update which brings a host of new content to the game. Update 0.10.80 comes with the new PvP map Chemical Plant. Players will also get to meet the final Horseman of Apocalypse with Horsemen of Apocalypse: Pestilence. A new tab, called Clash of Engineers, has also been added to the exhibition where players can submit their armoured vehicles in themed competitions.
The Sojourn Shows Gameplay Mechanics in New Trailer
First-person puzzle game The Sojourn has presented a new trailer which features the game’s gameplay mechanics and revealed its release date. The game will be launching on September 20th, and will be available through the Epic Games Store, Ps4, and Xbox One. The game is set in a dreamlike world and features puzzles, as well as some references to The Witness.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Release Date and Details Announced
A new Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot trailer has been released and it showcases some very interesting details. The most noteworthy detail is the Buu saga which is by no means an overwhelming favourite for Dragon Ball Enthusiasts but an interesting one nonetheless. Featuring both this and the Cell saga also indicates that there is a strong possibility there will be a fusion mechanic in the game. In addition, we now know that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will be released on January 17, 2020, for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris Gets New Trailer
Bandai Namco has released a new Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris trailer for Tokyo Game Show. The trailer is an odd one as it reveals rough drafts and cuts of various game screens, scenes, and lines. The working assumption is, it was released to show fans that progress is being made on the story as the story progresses. The trailer also features the Cardinal and fan-favourite Asuna. Unfortunately, a release window is yet to be announced but we do know the game releases on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
Rune II Release Date Announced
Ragnarok Game is pleased to announce that its Viking-themed third-person hack-and-slash action game Rune II, will be released for PC on November 12, 2019. There was a really interesting trailer that came with the announcement which expounds on your role in the game. As expected, you are a Viking warrior; one who is must ally with one of three Norse gods: Thor, Hel, or Odin then progress through the game’s story accordingly. The game has been long anticipated for some time and thankfully it won’t be too long before it releases.
Dota 2 Anti-hack Causes Issues for Innocent Players
Valve recently displayed a strict anti-hack system to detect and deter players using command scripts to crash Dota 2 servers. This system worked but it perhaps worked too well as quite a few innocent players have reported being wrongfully penalized by said system. This issue is most common among players who tend to click a lot or do extremely high inputs which cause the system to mistake them for scripters. Hopefully, this issue will be resolved soon as players report it being a huge inconvenience.
FINAL FANTASY XIV: Shadowbringers Patch 5.1 Out Now
FINAL FANTASY XIV Online’s critically-acclaimed third expansion has finally received patch 5.1. According to the patch notes, Patch 5.1 introduces the next chapter in the exhilarating Shadowbringers main storyline and with that, comes a host of new and exciting main story quests. Get ready for the highly-anticipated YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse alliance raid, a collaboration with the NieR series. Patch 5.1 also features job adjustments, Gold Saucer updates, system updates, and more.
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Gets Three New Deam Events
Nintendo has announced three new Dream Events that are being added to the rotation in Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. According to the developer, the new Dream Events include Dream Shooting, Dream Karate, and Dream Racing. Though the minigames usually have some semblance of realism in them, these events are more on the fantastical side but they will be welcomed regardless. The game is due out on November 5 for North America and November 8 for Europe.
Borderlands 3 tops the UK Sales Charts
Borderlands 3 is currently the highest-selling physical release this year as far as the UK Charts are concerned. Whilst exciting, this news likely comes as a shocker to no one considering the game has been one of the most highly anticipated games in the world since it had been announced. Gearbox Software’s action-RPG bested some really good games to acquire the top spot. In second place is Gears 5, then EFootball PES 2020 then NBA 2K20 and Greedfall to round out the top 5.
Dragon Quest 11 Release Date Announced
Square Enix recently published a tweet via its official twitter account confirming that Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age is coming to Nintendo Switch later this month. It will come bearing an enhanced port that packs some new bells and whistles including an optional retro visual style. The developer has also announced that all three of the original three Dragon Quest games are currently on sale on the Nintendo Eshop. Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age is due out on September 27.
Final Fantasy 7 Gets Classic Mode
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is getting a ‘Classic Mode’ which will be turn-based just like how the original game played. The original FF7 launched in 1997 and players are able to select attacks and different moves on a menu interface. There will be an ATB Guage that will charge up and then players are able to choose what move to make. With this mode, players should not worry about the action side of the combat system and would only concentrate on selecting commands. FF7 Remake will launch on March 3, 2020.
Cyberpunk 2077 Will Have Handcrafted Quests
Cyberpunk 2077 will not have procedurally generated quests but handcrafted ones. This is according to the game’s design coordinator Philipp Weber, he said that “quality is more important than quantity…we don’t just want to keep people busy, but actually give them something to do that’s worth their while”. Weber also assures players that even though the game will be handcrafted, the game will still be huge, it will be a big Open World RPG. There will also be some interesting side quests too!
Gears 5 Opening Weekend Saw 3 Million Players Breaking Record
When Gears 5 launched on its opening weekend, it was able to break records with having the biggest launch of any Xbox Game Studios release. The new game was able to get 3 million players across the globe during that weekend as reported by Xbox. The number is double of what Gears of War 4 made during its launch weekend making it the most-played game from an Xbox Game Studios title. The previous record-holder was that of Halo 4 which has launched in 2012.
