In a surprise announcement, the Nicalis team confirms the arrival and release date of Cats Away, the colorful strategic cat adventure from Studio Saizensen. Let’s find out when!

Cats Away (CA) is the real-time strategy ship adventure from the team at Studio Saizensen. A Japanese development studio known for the Umihara Kawase series, but also some installments of the Shining fighting game series and more recently for COTTOn Rock’n’Roll –SUPERLATIVE NIGHT DREAMS-.

With Cats Away, known as Buccanyar and already released in Japan in 2023, the team brings its pirate and cat adventure in collaboration with publisher Nicalis. Buccanyar Confirmed as Cats Away – Release Date Announced

Over 2 years after its launch in Japan, the Studio Saizensen team finally announces the global version of Buccanyar. The strategic pirate adventure on the seas from the Japanese studio. Localized as Cats Away and published by Nicalis, confirming the release date for 10 July 2025.

The announcement was accompanied by the official trailer. A colorful trailer that shows us the main features of the game, with a pirate adventure on the seas. Full of clashes, lots of characters to meet, and of course, many cats to recruit for our crew. The game will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, and PS5.

Cats Away: What the new game from Studio Saizensen offers

A colorful and wacky adventure that combines RTS and Action, accompanied by a pirate-themed story. We will join the three sisters Kanna, Lilia, and Alicia and their cat crew across the seas to uncover their father’s secret. Offering:

• Cat Crew: With 60 different types of cats you can recruit for your crew. They can help you as fighters, repairers, remote pilots, and first aid.

• Strategy: With a strong strategic side involving advantageous positions, countermeasures, and reactivity during combat. Each sister provides access to different commands depending on who is at the helm.

• Customization: With extensive customization of our vessel, including equipment and color schemes. But also over 150 unique weapons and 30 remote units usable by our cats.

• Online Mode: A mode that can be unlocked. You can join a Guild and challenge other players in Gate Battles for control of the seas.

There’s also a fun cameo of feline versions of Umihara Kawase, and of Cotton and Ria. And a game story with over 30 hours of content as well as numerous side missions. An interesting note is this is the first native port to PS5 for the game, as Buccanyar in Japan was released on PS4.
