Mass Effect Universe Trailer Leaks Online
Just one day after Electronic Arts closed BioWare, a concept trailer for the cancelled Mass Effect 5 appeared on Reddit. The footage provides a definitive look at the project the studio was developing right up until the sudden shutdown.
The leaked video opens with text stating a small team created the in-engine footage using pre-production assets. The title screen officially names the project Mass Effect: Universe. Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier confirmed the video is legitimate. The cinematic depicts an unnamed human protagonist flirting with an Asari inside a neon-lit bar.
The Asari betrays the protagonist, triggering a massive firefight involving Turian and Krogan enemies. The combat heavily features biotic powers and concludes with an appearance by Liara T’Soni from the original trilogy.
Viewers immediately noted the trailer carries a serious, dangerous tone. The community praised the mature direction, which contrasts sharply with the widely criticized dialogue style of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
A purported BioWare developer has leaked a trailer for the cancelled ME 5 on Reddit. The footage, reportedly titled "MASS EFFECT UNIVERSE," appears to suggest the project was further along in development. Its authenticity remains unverified. #MassEffect https://t.co/5tLchsUhZQ

Will Electronic Arts Sell the BioWare IPs?
Electronic Arts retains full ownership of the Mass Effect and Dragon Age franchises, but the publisher might eventually sell these properties to generate revenue. Former BioWare producer Mark Darrah noted that EA could monetize these dormant brands once the company shifts away from strict cost-cutting.
The publisher recently underwent a $55 billion acquisition by an investment consortium including Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. The resulting corporate debt forced Electronic Arts to cut 400 jobs and cancel multiple early-development projects.
Darrah warned that Electronic Arts might simply choose to vault the franchises permanently. However, industry precedents demonstrate that publishers can successfully outsource legacy properties, much like Konami licensing Silent Hill to Bloober Team.

The Franchise Future and Amazon Series
Electronic Arts completely eliminated the internal development teams for its role-playing games. The publisher officially stated it will focus future investments on massive sports properties and established blockbuster brands.
Despite the studio closure, Amazon continues production on the live-action Mass Effect television series for Prime Video. The Hollywood adaptation remains the only active project attached to the science fiction universe.
Fans hoping for a gaming revival must now wait to see if Electronic Arts licenses the universe to an external developer. Or if the company is planning to completely sell the IP.
