What Did Blizzard Announce at BlizzCon 2026?
Blizzard Entertainment revealed a massive slate of upcoming titles at BlizzCon 2026. The publisher officially announced Diablo 5, an open-world StarCraft shooter and World of Warcraft: Forever. Furthermore, Blizzard confirmed a new Warcraft 3 expansion and the arrival of the Amazon class in Diablo 4.
The opening ceremony set a definitive roadmap for the studio through 2030. Company president Johanna Faries emphasized a return to foundational franchises across the entire product lineup.
Diablo 5 Arrives in 2029 Alongside a Netflix Animated Series
The Diablo franchise took center stage during the convention. The development team scheduled the Diablo 5 release window for Spring 2029. The sequel takes place 100 years after Diablo 4. The Lord of Terror has conquered Sanctuary, eliminating all safe towns and forcing players to travel with a caravan of followers.
Blizzard also revealed three playable classes for the sequel. The Demon Hunter and Monk return to the roster, while the Plague Knight makes its franchise debut. Beyond the video game space, Blizzard Entertainment and Netflix are currently co-producing an official animated series set in the Diablo universe.

Will Diablo 4 Receive More Expansions?
Blizzard confirmed that Diablo 4 will not receive any additional paid expansions. Instead, the development team will transition the game to a seasonal live-service model that bridges the narrative gap between Diablo 4 and Diablo 5. The studio promises long-term support despite the sequel announcement.
Game director Brent Gibson noted that future seasons will explore the 100-year timeline leading into the sequel. The current game also receives a major update shortly. The Amazon class arrives in the first half of 2027, featuring four gameplay archetypes and introducing the javelin weapon type.
Additionally, Blizzard will release the Diablo 4: Age of Hatred Collection on the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 15, 2026.
World of Warcraft: Forever Reinvents the Classic Era
The Warcraft universe expands across multiple fronts this year. World of Warcraft: Forever launches on November 4, 2026, offering a permanent third pillar alongside the Modern and Classic versions.
This new iteration operates as an alternate timeline set during the original Vanilla era. The developers added three new zones, over 1,000 quests, and a brand-new playable race called the Skyborne Elves.
Meanwhile, the mainline World of Warcraft continues the Worldsoul Saga. The upcoming Eclipse 12.2 update sets the stage for the final expansion chapter, titled The Last Titan.
Classic real-time strategy fans also received an immediate release. Blizzard Entertainment released the Warcraft 3: Reforged Forsaken Kingdom campaign today, marking the first new story content for the game in 23 years.

StarCraft Returns as an Open-World Shooter in 2030
The StarCraft franchise returns to active development with a drastic genre shift. Blizzard announced an original open-world shooter set in the Koprulu Sector.
The publisher simply titled the project “StarCraft” and scheduled the launch for Spring 2030. The cinematic reveal confirmed a departure from the traditional real-time strategy format.
Other established properties also received substantial updates. Overwatch celebrates its tenth anniversary by adding Doctrine, a vampire-inspired support hero, during Season 5. Finally, Hearthstone adds the Monk class in March 2027, while Heroes of the Storm receives its first new character in six years with the addition of Xal’atath this September.
