Gears of War E-Day Beta Preload and Technical Details
Our first hands-on experience for one of the most awaited games of the year, Gears of War E-Day, is happening next week. But for those who preordered or are part of Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, the fun starts this weekend already during the beta’s early access which will run from August 6 to August 10.
Preloading has already started, with the beta client requiring a 62.28 GB download. If the game was preordered digitally through Steam or Xbox, the beta should automatically appear in the player’s game library. As for physical copies, a code should be emailed to the owner’s email address but on the off chance that it is not, players should contact Xbox Game Studios Shop Customer Service.
Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members don’t need a separate code. Simply search for “Gears Beta” through the Game Pass library and download the client from there.
Moving on to the open beta the following weekend which runs from August 13 to August 17, the client will be downloadable directly on Steam and the Xbox store. While an open beta typically means anyone can play, there is a bit of restriction for Xbox Series X|S. Console players will need at least an Xbox Game Pass Essential, the most basic tier, to access the beta.
On PC, players only need to meet the minimum hardware requirements which include an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 or RTX 2060, or an AMD Radeon RX 9060 or RX 6600, alongside 12 GB of RAM.
Gears of War E-Day Beta Content, Progression, and Rewards
Now that we are done with the technicalities, let us get into the actual content of the beta. Being that it is a beta, it is just a chunk of the full version but it is a sizable chunk nonetheless.
Players will have access to one map from the three that will be available at launch, along with all four Horde Siege classes. Progression is limited during testing, however, with class levels capped at Level 10 and overall player level capped at Level 50 instead of the Level 100 available in the full release.
The content also changes slightly between the two beta weekends. As per the announcement, the early access will only feature the PvE mode, otherwise known as Horde Siege. The much-anticipated PvP mode is reserved for the open beta the following weekend.
Regarding progression, the saved data from the early access beta can be carried over to the open beta including player rewards, class progression, and player level. However, that is as far as the saved data goes as these stats cannot be carried over to the full game. The only things that will follow players to the full launch are the exclusive beta rewards.
As always, it’s worth remembering that this is still a beta and doesn’t represent the final version of Gears of War: E-Day. Any bugs, balance changes, or technical issues discovered across these two weekends are expected to be addressed before the game officially launches on October 6.
