When Is The King is Watching Releasing on Consoles?

The King is Watching will officially launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on July 29, 2026. The title will cost just under $16 and includes a simultaneous release on the Microsoft Store for PC.

Publisher tinyBuild and developer Hypnohead confirmed the date following a highly successful PC debut in 2025. The game has already reached over 600,000 units sold during its early run.

The transition to modern console hardware ensures players can manage their settlements with fully optimized controller support. Hypnohead Studio head Semyon Itmaniuk noted that the team focused heavily on translating the fast-paced resource management to standard gamepads.

The Royal Gaze Mechanic Dictates Production

Managing a medieval economy usually involves passive timers, but Hypnohead takes a literal approach to workforce supervision. Workers in this game are inherently lazy, requiring the monarch’s direct line of sight to function.

Players must physically look at the wheat fields to trigger harvesting or monitor the barracks to train knights. If the player averts their attention to check a distant defensive wall, production at the previous location immediately halts.

This system forces continuous triage during intense enemy sieges. Players must balance glancing at the mage guild to generate defensive spells against watching the front lines to ensure troops stay motivated.

The progression system also features distinct monarchs to unlock for future runs. Players can select King Leo the Wise to grant new building blueprints, or the dreadful King Alucard to resurrect fallen soldiers as undead warriors.

The Shifting Sands Expansion Adds End-Game Modifiers

Alongside the console debut, the development team just last month deployed the free Shifting Sands expansion, now integrated across all platforms. This massive update overhauls the endgame progression by replacing Threat Tiers with 36 distinct Danger Modifiers.

Players can activate specific modifiers that reduce unit health, trigger lightning strikes, or resurrect enemy units after death. Surviving these enhanced difficulty parameters unlocks new cosmetic King Personas and powerful artifacts.

The update also introduces four new bosses, including the Monkey King, alongside a custom Free Reign Mode for tailored difficulty tuning. Endless Mode received a significant rework as well, ensuring enemy scaling relies on unit strength rather than sheer volume to maintain performance.
