The 2025 TGA trailer unveiled not just one, but two distinct experiences. Catalyst serves as the fresh “Tomb Raider 12,” while Legacy of Atlantis revisits the 1996 adventure that started it all.

Legacy of Atlantis: Remaking the 1996 Classic Again
If you’re keeping count, Legacy of Atlantis marks the fifth iteration of the original game.
We’ve had the 1996 original, the Gold expansion, the Anniversary remake in 2007, and the recent Remastered collection. That is a lot of recycling.
However, this isn’t a simple port.

The footage confirms the return of the grapple hook. This tool was absent in the 1996 original but vital in Anniversary. Fans also spotted a massive dinosaur, hinting that the legendary T-Rex boss fight is getting a cinematic overhaul.
Tomb Raider: Catalyst Release Date & Story Details
While the remake feeds nostalgia, Tomb Raider: Catalyst pushes the timeline forward.
Set “in the wake of a mythical cataclysm,” the story involves ancient secrets and awakened guardians. The narrative promises a clash with “the world’s most notorious treasure hunters” across Northern India.
Interestingly, time travel is implied as a plot device.
How this impacts gameplay remains a mystery, but it adds a sci-fi layer to the adventure.
Targeting a 2027 release, Catalyst is confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (via Steam). It seems we have a bit of a wait before we can dive into this new chapter.
Don’t Pre-Order Tomb Raider: How to Save Money
When these titles finally drop—especially a triple-A blockbuster like Catalyst—you can expect the standard $70 (or higher) price tag.
