Today, December 11 at 10 AM PST (1 PM EST / 7 PM CET), Ashes of Creation finally kicks off its Early Access on Steam.
But let’s be real for a second: this isn’t your typical “Early Access” marketing stunt where the game is basically finished. This is Version 0.18. Intrepid Studios has been brutally honest—the game is strictly “in development.” If you jump in, you aren’t just playing; you are bug-hunting.
Steam Early Access: A True “Work in Progress”
Intrepid expects backlash and negative Steam reviews, and honestly, they are right to warn us. The build is incomplete, and technical hiccups are guaranteed.
Your role here is to test mechanics, report glitches, and actually influence the future of Verra. Just know that server wipes are part of the deal.
Specifically, everything gets wiped for this launch to ensure a level playing field. Future wipes? Totally on the table if tech needs demand it.
Live Server List:
- US: Shol and Resna
- EU: Lotharia and Pelune
There’s also a potentially unstable PTR (Public Test Realm) for the brave souls who want to test the bleeding edge updates.
👋 Join us for some fun on the Shol and Lotharia realms!

Your First Steps in Verra: Character Creation
So, what exactly are we getting into? First, you’ll pick a race (mostly cosmetic right now) and sculpt your hero. Then comes the real choice: your Archetype.
You have eight options to define your playstyle:
- Fighter
- Tank
- Ranger
- Rogue
- Mage
- Summoner (new)
- Cleric
- Bard
Eventually, we’ll see archetype combinations, but for now, you stick to the basics. Once your character is ready, you have to pick where to spawn:
- Aela (Riverlands): The original Alpha zone. It’s content-rich and polished.
- Dünzenkell (Mountains): A newer, northern region. It’s arid, austere, and might be a bit rougher around the edges.
Gameplay and Progression: Slow and Steady
Don’t expect to rush to the endgame. Progression in Ashes of Creation is deliberately paced, with the current level cap sitting at 25.
You’ll run through a tutorial and a questline to hit level 4 or 5, introducing you to combat, gathering, and the crucial crafting system.
While you have freedom, “Commission Boards” will guide you to points of interest suited to your level. You’ll be chopping trees, mining ore, and hunting animals to craft your own gear or fuel the in-game economy.
To help you not get lost, a new “Destiny” system in the UI guides you on a discovery path with some decent rewards.
The Node System: A Social Experiment
This is where Ashes shines in my opinion. It’s not about solo grinding; it’s about the Node System.
The world changes based on player activity. A campsite can grow into a village, then a city, unlocking new content and activities for everyone in the region. These nodes are run by players (Mayors), and they can cooperate or go to war.
PvP is baked into the DNA here. Aside from guild wars and future massive sieges, update 0.18 introduces the Harbingers (corruption system).
These are massive PvPvE raid events where corruption spreads across the land unless players band together to stop it. The world is hostile, so bring friends.
Launch Details, Price & Discounts
If you are ready to dive into the chaos, the game is $49.99 on Steam.
However, there is a 15% discount running until December 25, dropping it to $42.49.
Already a backer from the Alpha/Beta days?
You get in automatically (just link your Intrepid account to Steam). Plus, buying in now secures access to all future Betas and the PTR.
In Conclusion
Intrepid is promising the moon with Ashes of Creation, and this Early Access is our first real look at whether they can deliver. It’s going to be messy, buggy, and incomplete—but the ambition is undeniable.
Are you brave enough to jump into the buggy waters of Version 0.18, or are you waiting for the full 1.0 release? Tell us in the comments!
