The Crew 2 Finally Gets an Official Offline Mode

Ubisoft rolls out an offline mode for The Crew 2. Officially called Hybrid Mode lets players switch between online and offline play.

The Crew 2 Offline Mode

The Crew fans get its justice today as Ubisoft officially rolls out an offline mode for The Crew 2. The much-requested feature was first announced last year, following backlash and a lawsuit over the shutdown of the original The Crew, which initially left the game completely unplayable. Fortunately, dedicated modders kept its spirit alive by releasing an offline mod, and now Ubisoft has made that long-demanded functionality official. Well for the second game, that is.

The Crew 2 Offline Mode Now Available

It took a while and a lot of “convincing” but finally we are here. Ubisoft releases an update for The Crew 2 with the new Hybrid mode, which allows players to switch between online and offline play. It is now available for PC players, with the console update releasing within the day.

Players will be prompted between online or offline upon starting the game, as long as it’s connected to the internet. If not, it will automatically load in offline mode. Ubisoft stated that online and offline saves are kept separate.

So to carry over your online progression, you’ll need to select “Export to Offline Save” after finishing a session. That will save locally and will overwrite a previous offline save if there’s any. It’s important to note that offline progression will not carry over to your online save.

As for what you can bring to your offline save, vehicle packs, Season Pass, and unlocked rewards via Ubisoft Connect redeemed through The House or any HQ can be carried over, so as your Crew Credit balance. This can be used to purchase items from the offline catalogue.

Since the game is originally designed as an online multiplayer experience, there are some features that cannot be accessed in offline play:

  • Crew Credits online-only purchases like vehicle bundles and vanity items, and the Far & Beyond shop in all 4 Hubs
  • LIVE Summits
  • All multiplayer content including PvP, Crews, crew features, news feed, leaderboards, ghosts, and statistics menus
  • UGC features including the Race Creator and Livery Editor. Custom liveries will not transfer to offline saves
  • Some Hobbies and Achievements (Xbox, PlayStation, PC, and Ubisoft Connect) that require online-only actions.

From a company who defended themselves from The Crew shutdown saying gamers paid for the license and not the game itself, this feels like a step in the right direction and an indirect acknowledgement of yes, you pay for the game.
