Bioshock return in 2027 with a joint game and movie combo in Rapture!

The heavy, metallic thud of a Big Daddy’s footsteps. The chaotic, echoing chatter of a Splicer hiding just out of sight. That crushing, claustrophobic tension of being trapped under the ocean.

It’s been way too long since we felt that specific brand of dread. You know the exact feeling. We’ve been starved for anything new from the BioShock universe for over a decade. But the long silence is finally breaking, and the news is surprisingly huge.

Netflix’s Rapture is Actually Happening

The Netflix BioShock movie has felt like a pipe dream for years. It survived writer strikes, budget cuts, and endless delays that made us wonder if it was quietly canceled.

Director Francis Lawrence is still attached, but his schedule has been packed. According to Collider, Producer Roy Lee just dropped a massive update, though, and things are looking up.

Lawrence is finishing up the new Hunger Games prequel right now. Once that wraps up later this year, his next major project is tentatively BioShock.

Lee mentioned they are hoping to get production rolling in 2027. So, the cameras aren’t rolling tomorrow, but the wheels are absolutely turning.

A Coordinated Return to the Deep

Here’s where things get genuinely exciting for us gamers. This isn’t just a movie being made in a vacuum while the game franchise collects dust. Take-Two Interactive and Netflix are apparently talking strategy. They want the movie’s release to line up with something else entirely.

According to Lee, both companies are incredibly anxious to time the film’s premiere with “potential new incarnations of the game.” Translation? They want BioShock 4 and the movie to drop around the exact same time. The hype train is being built to run on dual tracks.

The Fixer is in the House

We all know the next game has had a pretty rough time at Cloud Chamber. Rumors of reboots and shifting visions have been floating around for years.

But Take-Two recently brought in industry veteran Rod Fergusson to head up the studio. If you know Fergusson’s track record, you know he’s basically the industry’s ultimate closer.

He did the exact same thing for BioShock Infinite back in 2012, coming in to polish and push the game across the finish line when things looked shaky. With a rumored target of late 2027 for the new game, he has a solid runway to get this massive project back on track.

Ready to Splice Up Again?

It looks like 2027 could be the year BioShock completely takes over our lives again. Between a massive streaming adaptation and a brand-new game, the agonizing wait might actually pay off.

Let’s just hope our plasmids are fully charged by the time the water starts rushing in.
