System Shock 2 Steam Delisting Announced, But It’s Not the End For This Classic
Nightdive Studios announced that System Shock 2 will be delisted on October 10th. But there are still ways to get the game after this date.
System Shock 2, the generation-defining classic from 1999, remains one of the most influential titles not just in survival horror but in the gaming industry as a whole. And to celebrate its 25th anniversary, a remaster was released in June featuring enhanced graphics and some quality of life improvement.
But while that seems to be the right direction, Nightdive Studios has announced that the original version will be left behind. Today, the studio revealed that the game will be delisted from PC platforms.

It’s not unusual for classic games to be retired from storefronts especially once a remake or remaster arrives. And System Shock 2 is no exception. Nightdive Studios confirmed on Steam that the original 1999 version will be delisted from PC storefronts on October 10th. Of course, those who already own the game will still be able to re-download and play it from their library after this date.

Alongside the delisting announcement, Nightdive Studio also mentioned that this 1999 original copy will be available for free with the System Shock 2 Anniversary Remaster. So while it won’t be available as a standalone product on Steam anymore, it isn’t gone for good. There is, however, a noticeable price jump. As it stands, it only costs $9.99/£6.99/€9.99 compared to the remaster at $29.99/£23.99/€28.99.
But before you rush to buy, it’s worth noting that System Shock 2 (1999) remains available on GOG as of writing. And it’s unlikely to be delisted there since it’s part of GOG’s Preservation Program. And yes, still listed at the original price.

I think it's normal, given the fact that the remastered version runs much better and with slightly enhanced visuals. Players who have never discovered this undying classic will enjoy more the new version anyway. I only wish that Nightdive Studios made a whole remake for System Shock 2 as well, first one was mind blowing.
