Virtuos discusses the success of the Nintendo Switch 2 and the potential for ports thanks to hardware similar to the Series S

Virtuos Ltd is a video game company focused in particular on co-development and porting various games. The company was founded in 2004 in Shanghai and is headquartered in Singapore, having established numerous studios worldwide. This development team has garnered a lot of attention, especially for porting many games to the Nintendo Switch. This includes some of the so-called ‘impossible ports’ or high-quality ones on the Nintendo console.

Including The Witcher 3, NieR Automata, No Man’s Sky, Dying Light, the two Metro Redux games, and many others. Many are eager to see what the studio can do with the more powerful hardware of the NS2. Virtuos Talks About the Potential of the Nintendo Switch 2

With the Nintendo Switch 2 having been launched for a month now, some interesting news is also coming from third-party teams. Specifically, Wccftech had the chance to interview none other than the Virtuos team. In an interview published on July 4th with Alex Heise and Eoin O’ Grady, the Director of Business Development for Virtuos North America and the Technical Director of Black Shamrock (a subsidiary of Virtuos), respectively.

With various questions about the success of the NS2 at launch, they also shared some information on what the team will be able to deliver thanks to the new hardware. Hardware that is not only more powerful, putting it on par with the ninth generation of consoles, but also includes additional features from Nvidia, particularly support for DLSS and hardware-accelerated ray tracing.

Nintendo Switch 2: Performance and Port Quality According to Virtuos

In the Wccftech interview, Heise and O’ Grady discussed the potential of the new NS2 hardware. With a GPU just shy of the Series S, but with a more powerful CPU than the PS4. And it’s precisely the existence of the Series S that will make porting some games much easier. Those running at 30 fps will require less work, and 60fps will be possible with good optimization.

This allows the NS2 to have a larger library of third-party games with fewer visual and performance sacrifices. Thanks to Nvidia features, with DLSS helping to bridge the performance gap between the Series S and Switch 2. And access to Hardware Ray Tracing. Which, according to the team, will allow for the future use of high-quality RT shadows and reflections with less performance impact.

In Conclusion

From what the two Directors from Virtuos and Black Shamrock shared, the Switch 2 is set to be a huge success for Nintendo. A console that will be able to surpass the original. Thanks to its more thought-out and modern hardware. With third-party ports in particular being able to offer an experience with fewer compromises.

And certainly, many are looking forward to seeing what ports the Virtuos team has in store, although a potential Oblivion Remastered on NS2 will surely be a great challenge for the team. So, what do you think? Let us know in the comments!
