In this time-manipulating VR game, the key to survival is movement. If you stop, enemies in over 40 levels, including the nightmarish Backrooms, will speed up and become more dangerous.
More like Bizarro to Superhot’s Kal-El, Cold VR’s flip to slowing down time while in motion offers some incredibly fun gameplay moments that are also enhanced by great presentation. It’s too bad that the game often lacks the polish of its biggest inspiration through bugs and occasionally wonky design.
It’s hard not to think of the wasted potential here with COLD VR, and the 40-stage campaign took me roughly three hours to complete. ALLWARE’s debut game needed more time, better balancing, and considerably more polish to fine tune the core campaign before next week’s launch.
Cold VR has done an interesting job in taking the Superhot DNA and twisting it into something different. It’s fun, fast and frenetic, and is a good way to spend 30-minute bursts of action in VR, especially for those who really enjoy similar styles of game.
