What’s the Consensus On Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards Desert Statue?

Geoff Keighley drops a cryptic desert statue tease and gamers are racing to decode it. Big announcement coming up on TGA 2025.

 

As if we needed more hype for the upcoming The Game Awards 2025, Geoff Keighley decided to drop one more tease ahead of the show. The host posted a photo on X of a strange desert sculpture with the caption “regal.inspiring.thickness.” It looked like pure word salad at first until people quickly clocked that it was actually a What3Words location.

 

The Game Awards Desert Statue in California

Just before we stepped into December, Geoff Keighley teased a possible (probable) game announcement on The Game Awards happening on December 11th. On his official X account, he shared a photo which turned out to be a real sculpture found near Joshua Tree, California.

Not long after, many people showed up to the exact location of regal.inspiring.thicknes (a Mojave Desert field near the corner of 29 Palms Highway and Yucca Mesa Road), and found the statue standing there in full view. There were some staff members around but none were disclosing what it is, in relation to, or even if it’s connected to The Game Awards.

Then the official TGA X account replied to Geoff’s tweet with a pinned location of its own. That was the moment most people took this seriously and started assuming the statue is a deliberate teaser for something major at the show.

   

Since then, the community has been dissecting every detail of the sculpture and throwing out predictions. The titles that mostly come up are God of War 3, Elder Scrolls 6, a DOOM game, a Diablo game or expansion, and even some hopeful echoes of Half Life 3.

At this point no one really knows but that statue had more to give. At night, it lights up and how it’s looking, fueled even more Diablo speculation. This was further fueled by Jez Corden replying to an X comment in relation to the Diablo expansion prediction, saying “yes but also, more.”

What that means and if he really knows something, who knows. It’s still anyone’s guess. Either way, if you’re nearby and have the time, check it out. It’s a work of art and an absolute marvel to look at.

   

The Game Awards 2025 will go live on December 11th 4:30PM PT / 7:30PM ET or December 12th 12:30AM GMT / 1:30AM CET. Voting is now open on the official The Game Awards website.
