Key Takeaways: The Quick Answer
- The Last Night is alive: Creator Tim Soret is presenting the game privately to investors and platforms at GDC 2026.
- No public gameplay yet: The showcase is strictly behind closed doors, meaning we will have to wait a bit longer for an official re-reveal.
- A decade of waiting: Originally revealed at E3 2017 as an Xbox One exclusive, the cyberpunk 2.5D adventure is likely shifting to modern hardware.
A Private GDC 2026 Showing for The Last Night
It turns out one of the most anticipated indies of the last decade isn’t vaporware after all. According to a recent post on X by creator Tim Soret, The Last Night is officially making an appearance at GDC 2026 in San Francisco.
Don’t expect a public gameplay drop this week, though. Soret confirmed he is hosting strictly private, behind-closed-doors presentations. He is actively seeking out developers, platforms, investors, and even film producers to help push the project across the finish line.
In his own words, Soret believes the team at Odd Tales has built “something special“—claiming that as a player himself, he has never seen anything quite like it. While we don’t have a premium retail price or release window yet, just knowing the code is compiling is a massive relief.
Flying to San Francisco today to show The Last Night in private around GDC. Last year was an absolute pleasure, met many creative heroes.

From E3 2017 to Modern Hardware
If you need a refresher, this cyberpunk adventure first blew our minds during the Xbox E3 2017 showcase. Its fusion of cinematic platforming and ridiculously detailed 2.5D pixel art heavily channeled classic sci-fi cinema.
Back then, early publishing deals positioned it as an Xbox One console exclusive. Historically speaking, a 9-year development cycle usually spells cancellation for smaller studio projects. However, recent animated GIFs shared by Soret prove the engine is still running smoothly and looking sharper than ever.

The Replaced Connection and What’s Next
Knowing the game is actively seeking modern distribution deals is a huge win for fans of narrative-driven sci-fi. It also sets up an interesting future rivalry with Replaced, another visually stunning 2.5D title that clearly shares some visual DNA with Odd Tales’ work.
The current platform targets remain a mystery, but a shift away from the Xbox One toward PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S is a safe bet. Hopefully, this private GDC 2026 tour secures the final backing needed to get the game onto our drives soon.
