Excitement turns to confusion as Stellar Blade goes dark on Steam in many countries. Could PSN be the hidden gatekeeper?
PC gamers have been waiting too long to get their hands on Stellar Blade. So when a leaked trailer confirmed that Stellar Blade was finally coming to PC, the fans were beyond excited. PC port? Check. Release date? Check. Different editions to choose from? Check.
But that excitement was short-lived.
Soon after the game’s Steam page went live, reports began flooding in: Stellar Blade wasn’t available to wishlist nor purchase in a huge number of countries. The initial confusion quickly turned into frustration when it became clear just how widespread the issue was.
Stellar Blade PC Blocked On Steam
A couple of days ago, Steam users began noticing that the Stellar Blade PC page wasn’t accessible. What many assumed was either a temporary glitch or a localized licensing hiccup soon turned into a bigger and much stranger story.
It turns out the game is blocked in over 130 countries. The Steam page simply didn’t exist for users in affected regions. And from the looks of it, the common denominator among all those locked out? They lived in countries without PSN support. Gamers quickly put two and two together: without a PSN account, you couldn’t access or wishlist the game on Steam.
That alone would’ve been controversial, but what really caught people off guard was the response (or rather, the confusion) of the developers themselves. Members of Shift Up were replying to user complaints online, seemingly unaware of the restriction. In some replies, they asked which country the user was from, sounding genuinely shocked by the situation. It became clear this wasn’t a well-communicated policy, not even internally.
The PC version of Stellar Blade does not require a PSN account. May I ask where you live?

The whole mess echoes the Helldivers 2 debacle when Sony quietly added a PSN requirement to the game post-launch, sparking mass outrage. The backlash was so intense that Sony eventually walked it back. You’d think that would’ve served as a lesson. But no. This time, instead of trying to justify a requirement, Sony seems to have opted for stealth mode, quietly enforcing PSN integration from the get-go without announcement.
But to make things even more confusing, there is an in-game bonus, Planet Diving Suit, offered for linking a PSN account to Steam. That strongly hints at PSN integration but nowhere was it explicitly stated that linking a PSN account would be mandatory just to access the game. Multiple news agencies have requested Sony for some clarification but as of writing, none has been issued.
