Starfield: Bethesda Reportedly Targeting Spring 2026 Release on PS5 With Expansion
According to insiders, Bethesda is reportedly planning to launch Starfield on the PS5 in Spring 2026 alongside a new expansion. The RPG launched for Xbox Series X|S and PC on September 6, 2023.
The much-rumored Starfield PS5 release could come in Spring 2026, according to MP1st, which says it will happen alongside the space RPG’s second expansion.
In its report, MP1st claims sources revealed the game will not release on PlayStation in 2025, “partly due to weak sales” of Shattered Space, the game’s first expansion, which launched on September 30, 2025, and sits on a “Mostly Negative” rating on Steam.
What We Know About the PS5 Release and Expansion
Starfield’s PS5 launch will reportedly come alongside the game’s second expansion and quality-of-life improvements. Those hoping for an official announcement from Bethesda or Microsoft at the upcoming Gamescom 2025 in August can forget it, as MP1st claims there are no plans from either company to reveal more or shadow-drop the game like the recent The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered.
A PS5 release would coincide with Microsoft’s latest strategy, which is to launch its first-party titles across more platforms to increase sales, the latest being the upcoming Gears of War: Reloaded, releasing August 26, 2025.
