Sony Greenlights R-Rated Bloodborne Animated Movie

After a decade of Bloodborne fans begging for a remaster, Sony has delivered a shock to the system that no one saw coming, a brutal, R-rated cinematic descent into the streets of Yharnam.

Sony Greenlights R-Rated Bloodborne Animated Movie

Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions have officially greenlit an R-rated animated Bloodborne movie, bringing in YouTuber Jacksepticeye as a co-producer to ensure the project stays true to its punishing roots.

Sony confirmed the film is being produced by Lyrical Animation, a new studio formed from the adult animation firm Line Mileage, specifically to maintain the game’s visceral and grotesque atmosphere.

As Variety confirmed, by moving away from live-action and leaning into high-end, mature animation, the production aims to remain “very true” to the cosmic horror and fluid, blood-soaked combat that defined the 2015 masterpiece.

Why is Jacksepticeye involved in the Bloodborne movie?

Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are partnering with Seán McLoughlin (Jacksepticeye) because his public obsession with the franchise offers a layer of “fan-first” protection.

Serving as a co-producer, McLoughlin is tasked with ensuring the adaptation respects the cryptic lore and environmental storytelling that defines the brand.

His involvement acts as a bridge between corporate interests and a community that is notoriously protective of Hidetaka Miyazaki’s vision.

What can fans expect from the R-rated animation style?

The Bloodborne movie is expected to utilize a bespoke, grotesque hand-drawn hybrid style designed to capture the cosmic horror of the Great Ones rather than relying on the clean, safe aesthetics of CGI.

By choosing Lyrical Animation, the production team is leaning into a visual language that mirrors the game’s Victorian dread.

This R-rated approach allows for the “visceral experience” necessary to depict the transformation of the populace and the literal rivers of blood that flow through the city streets.

Is Bloodborne still worth playing in 2026?

Bloodborne remains a mandatory experience for anyone who values tight combat and masterful world-building, and its relevance is only peaking as movie hype builds.

Player counts are already surging, proving that the 30fps cap hasn’t diminished the game’s status as a masterpiece.
