Hyenas, the hero-based, multiplayer extraction shooter was canceled last week, just a couple of weeks after their latest beta. Now, sources are reporting that it was Sega’s most expensive game ever.
WHAT WAS HYENAS?
Hyenas was a heart-pounding PvPvE game in which you and your team would break into well-guarded vaults scattered across the map. Once inside, you would seize the valuable merchandise hidden inside and make a daring escape from the ship before it’s too late.
It was a game of survival, in which communication and teamwork were vital, and you had to be brave enough to gamble everything to win.
WHY WAS IT CANCELED?
a tweet by the official Hyenas Twitter account suggested their plans may have been too ambitious to fulfill.
However, reports from those close to the dev team suggest a lack of leadership throughout the project. This could have led to things falling apart as Hyenas went from a premium game to a free–to–play shooter, to eventually canceled.
WHY WAS IT CANCELED?
Sega may have poured millions into Hyenas, making it their most expensive game to date, but a lack of leadership and direction brought it to an end.
It’s another blow to the genre as games like Overwatch 2 either fail to deliver or attract sufficient player numbers to last.
