Excitement for Capcom’s Resident Evil Requiem is building after exclusive gameplay footage appeared on a Japanese TV show, showing protagonist Grace Ashcroft coming face-to-face with a zombie in a mansion reminiscent of RE1.

Resident Evil Requiem is a return to the series’ “overarching narrative,” taking it back to Racoon City as Capcom uses the game to celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary, and the latest gameplay footage reveals a scene eerily similar to Resident Evil 1 and Spencer Mansion.
The footage comes from a Japanese TV show airing a special on the IP, via reliable Capcom leaker DuskGolem, who says the short clip features a “new area.”
A Glimpse into the Next Nightmare
Capcom has previously stated it wants to return to the series’ roots, going back to where it all began, to Racoon City. The new gameplay footage reveals the developer has moved on from the first-person horror of newer titles like Resident Evil Village, in favor of the intense, third-person over-the-shoulder action of recent remakes like Resident Evil 2.
It’s also clear that Capcom is appealing to long-term fans of the series while attempting to attract new players. Zombies are grotesque and highly detailed, while the setting revealed in the clip shows a location similar to Spencer Mansion from the original 1996 game.

Anticipation for December 11
Nominated for Most Anticipated Game at the upcoming The Game Awards 2025, many believe Resident Evil Requiem will feature at the event.
Capcom has not confirmed or denied whether the game will appear outside of its nomination. However, with the release date set for February 27, 2026, there are hopes that the studio will offer a new gameplay trailer.
Focus on Atmosphere and Detail
Utilizing its in-house RE Engine, Capcom’s upcoming Resident Evil Requiem will feature incredible environmental detail, realistic lighting, smooth frame rates, and highly detailed enemies to maximize the scare factor.
The studio’s heavy reliance on the RE Engine ensures a visually stunning, deeply atmospheric horror game that will appeal to the IP’s established fan base and newcomers.
What’s Next for Resident Evil Requiem? TGA 2025 and Release Date
Despite only a brief glimpse at previously unseen gameplay, hype for Capcom’s Resident Evil Requiem has only intensified as fans look toward TGA 2025 on December 11 for a potential new trailer ahead of the horror game’s launch on February 27, 2026.

The short footage looks pretty familiar in style, almost like they’re trying to echo the older games without overdoing it. Hard to tell much from just a quick scene, but the atmosphere seems on the right track. With TGA coming up, we’ll probably get a better idea of what they’re aiming for.
