Marathon Release Date Leaked: Launch Day, Price & Deluxe Edition Details

Bungie’s return to the Marathon universe may be arriving sooner than we thought. An accidental listing on the Xbox Store has pinned down the exact launch day for the extraction shooter, preempting the developer’s official announcement.

Marathon Release Date Leaked: Launch Day, Price & Deluxe Edition Details

The Xbox Store briefly displayed a Marathon pre-order trailer that ended with a definitive “March 5, 2026” release date. This slip-up converts Bungie’s vague “Spring” window into a tangible target for fans.

Alongside the date, the leak exposed details of a Deluxe Edition. Additionally, metadata from the store page lists a “Midnight Decay” cosmetic bundle, suggesting Bungie is banking heavily on premium skins to drive revenue on top of the base game’s confirmed $40 price tag.

Marathon: Xbox Store Prematurely Reveals March 5 Launch

This Xbox leak aligns perfectly with Bungie’s previous communication. In December 2025, the studio narrowed the release window to “March 2026,” making the March 5th date highly credible.

The leak didn’t just stop at the date; it also explicitly mentioned a Deluxe Edition, suggesting Bungie is ready to open the floodgates for pre-orders very soon.

While now taken down, the trailer reportedly showcased new Runner customization options, confirming that “identity” will be the primary progression hook. However, the trailer was scrubbed from the store within hours, leaving fans with only screenshots and cached text descriptions as proof.

Bungie’s Shooter vs The “March Window” Confirmation

Back in December, Bungie officially confirmed a “March” release window, lending significant credibility to this specific March 5 date. It appears the Xbox Store simply jumped the gun on the final announcement.

However, the road to launch hasn’t been without its bumps. This news comes hot on the heels of Art Director Joseph Cross announcing his departure from the studio.

While Cross stated the split was amicable and that he is “incredibly proud” of the visual world built, the timing of major staff changes right before a release date reveal adds a layer of complexity to the narrative.

The game is clearly finishing its incubation period, but the pressure is on for Bungie to deliver a polished experience right out of the gate.

Is Marathon Worth The Pre-Order?

The $40 price point is aggressive and tempting. Bungie is clearly targeting the “Smart Shopper” demographic, undercutting the standard $70 AAA pricing to flood the servers on Day 1.

Does the lower price tag make you more likely to pre-order, or are you waiting to see if the anti-cheat holds up?
