Allkeyshop was on the ground at Gamescom for John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, sharing first-hand impressions and screengrabs of the demo.

Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment dropped an explosive gameplay trailer for their upcoming shooter game, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando. It featured terrifying monsters, exciting gears, hordes of zombies, jacked up vehicles, and a whole lot of firepower. Seeing the trailer is one thing though, actually playing it is a whole new ballgame. And Allkeyshop was there to try it out.

Allkeyshop’s Gamescom special correspondent Kilian Binders was able to get his hands on the Toxic Commando demo in the event for a four-player co-op session. While the game can technically be played solo, staff confirmed that it becomes almost impossible due to weak AI support, making teamwork essential to survival. Considering though that the game won’t launch until next year, maybe this will change by then.

The demo featured a single large map with multiple objectives, swarms of enemies, and chaotic action. Players had access to a variety of weapon types, as well as heavily armed vehicles equipped with machine guns and flamethrowers. At certain points, the screen was completely filled with thousands of enemies, turning every encounter into a bloody, explosive spectacle.

With its mix of over-the-top splatter, massive hordes, and cooperative mayhem, Toxic Commando feels designed as a pure action-horror playground for friends who want to take on the apocalypse together.

John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is targeted to launch in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Epic Games Store and Steam. Players can now wishlist the game on the said platform.
