The teams at 3D Realms and Anshar Studios have confirmed a slight delay for Painkiller, the new reboot of the classic purgatory-themed FPS, but to make up for it, they’re showing off the Roguelike mode, Rogue Angel. Let’s find out more!

The Painkiller Reboot shows off the new Rogue Angel mode coming after the delay announcement to 21 October

Painkiller (PK) 2025 is the new installment and first-ever full reboot of the shooter game series by People Can Fly. A series that kicked off in 2004 as a wildly successful fps arena shooter. It delivered a fun campaign across various levels filled with demons, a unique arsenal of weapons, and solid multiplayer.

With the reveal of the reboot by the 3D Realms team at the March Future Games Show 2025. It’s in the hands of Anshar Studios, a team mainly known as co-developers on various projects, who this time are bringing a reimagined co-op experience of PK. Painkiller 2025: Officially Delayed to 21 October

With October marking the official launch of the Painkiller reboot by Anshar Studios, the 3D Realms team brings some important news. Officially confirming on 3 September 2025 a slight delay of less than 2 weeks for PK. The purgatory-themed co-op shooter experience will no longer debut on 9 October, but on 21 October 2025.

This new experience, remember, will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The team didn’t specify the reason for the small delay, but it’s surely related to further polishing the launch experience. However, the team recently followed up with the reveal of the Rogue Angel mode.

 

Rogue Angel: The New Roguelike Mode in Painkiller

Along with the delay, the 3D Realms team also revealed a new Game Mode for PK. Announcing the Rogue Angel mode, a full-blown Roguelike mode that will run alongside the main experience. Here, players will have to face a series of procedurally generated arenas.

Collect Tarot Cards, Weapons, and items by taking on the various enemies and Bosses of each area. Accompanied by a trailer showcasing the mode, where three of Ink, Void, Sol, and Roch will traverse various locations. It also shows some of the weapons in action, with the new versions of the Painkiller, Stakegun, Rocket Launcher, SMG, and Shotgun, joined by the new Hand Cannon.

So, we have a short delay for the launch date, with PK 2025 now set to debut on 21 October 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It’s bringing a co-op experience for up to 3 players, plus the Rogue Angel mode as a roguelike. Although many fans weren’t too surprised by this new addition.
