New Divinity: The one detail that proves it’s not Original Sin 3

After a week full of cryptic teasers surrounding a mysterious statue, Larian Studios – the minds behind *Baldur’s Gate 3* – finally dropped a bombshell at the Game Awards. It’s not *Baldur’s Gate 4* and it’s not *Original Sin 3*. It is simply *Divinity*, marking a surprising return to the studio’s Action RPG roots.

A Surprising Return to Divinity

Hats off to anyone who guessed correctly: that mysterious statue was indeed a hint at a new entry in the *Divinity* universe.

However, this is not the *Divinity: Original Sin 3* many fans have been clamoring for. Larian explicitly revealed the title as just *Divinity*.

For context: Larian released *Divine Divinity* in 2002, followed by *Beyond Divinity* and *Divinity 2* in the 2000s. The turn-based phenomenon *Divinity: Original Sin* didn’t hit the stage until 2014.

Genre Switch: From Turn-Based to Action

This distinction is crucial. Unlike the *Original Sin* series or *Baldur’s Gate 3*, earlier *Divinity* titles were primarily Action RPGs, not turn-based tactical games.

In my opinion, this is a bold move. After the massive success of *Original Sin 2* and the GOTY winner *Baldur’s Gate 3*, Larian has the world’s attention. It makes perfect sense that the studio wants to use this newfound fame to revitalize its own IP.

Why No Baldur’s Gate 4?

For those still hoping Larian was secretly working on *Baldur’s Gate 4*: the studio clarified quite some time ago that it wasn’t happening.

Larian has already explained why they are moving on and leaving the future of the *Baldur’s Gate* franchise in Hasbro’s hands. By returning to *Divinity*, Larian regains full creative control without the constraints of the Dungeons & Dragons rulebook.

Save on the Legendary Larian Catalog

As the hype for the new *Divinity* builds, now is the perfect time to explore Larian’s back catalog. Buying these classics directly on Steam or console stores often means paying full price for older titles.

Whether you want to experience the tactical depth of *Divinity: Original Sin 2* or the classic action of *Divine Divinity*, don’t let platform prices scare you off. You can find massive discounts on the entire Larian collection by comparing prices here on Allkeyshop.

Conclusion: A Bold New Direction?

Honestly, this switch is exciting. While fans of turn-based games might be initially disappointed, Larian has earned enough trust to try anything. Returning to an Action RPG format with the production values of *Baldur’s Gate 3* could lead to something truly spectacular.

What do you think? Are you ready for an Action RPG from Larian, or were you hoping for more turn-based combat? Let us know in the comments!
