Guerrilla Games and PlayStation have just dropped a bombshell that has been brewing in their secret labs for years: Horizon Hunters Gathering is real, and it’s changing the DNA of the franchise.

After years of playing alone through the Horizon universe, we are finally getting the three-player, skill-based co-op experience we’ve been dreaming of in Horizon Hunters Gathering.
In an announcement post on PlayStation Blog, game director Arjan Bak admits that “bringing a co-op hunting experience into the Horizon universe is something we’ve envisioned for a long time.”

Horizon Hunters Gathering: A New Breed of Machine Hunting
In Hunters Gathering, Guerrilla is leaning into their Killzone roots and Monster Hunter inspirations to deliver a combat system that is tactical, reactive, and punishingly skill-based.
The game shifts the focus from a “Chosen One” to a roster of specialized Hunters, each bringing unique melee or ranged expertise to the group.
With a rogue-lite perk system and deep role customization, every hunt becomes a high-stakes puzzle where your build is just as important as your aim. You aren’t just surviving, but mastering the machine ecosystem in ways a single player never could.
Secure Your Spot: Closed Beta & Playtests
If you’re itching to get your hands on a bow before the official launch, you’re in luck. Guerrilla has officially opened registrations for the first Horizon Hunters Gathering closed playtest, which is set to kick off at the end of February 2026.
This initial test is going to be small-scale, focusing on the core combat loop and server stability across both PS5 and PC. It’s your first real shot at testing out the two confirmed modes: the wave-based Machine Incursion and the procedurally shifting rooms of Cauldron Descent.
You’ll need to head over to the PlayStation Beta Program website to register your interest. They’re looking for a mix of veterans and newcomers to provide feedback on the new “hero-style” hunters.
Will Horizon Hunters Gathering Be Worth Picking Up?
If you’re a die-hard solo purist, the transition might feel jarring at first, but the sheer polish of the co-op mechanics is hard to ignore. It honors the deep lore of the series while giving us a reason to keep coming back for “just one more hunt.”
The loop of gathering resources, perfecting your build, and taking down massive machines with a crew is addictive and feels like a natural extension of the universe. It’s a definite buy for anyone who loves high-stakes tactical combat.
Are you ready to trade the solo life for a squad, or do you prefer hunting machines in total silence?

I’m sorry but this 'thing' doesn't appeal to either Horizon fans nor hero shooter fans, it is even painful to watch for Horizon fans… It is gonna fail so badly :(
