We finally have some new updates regarding Mortal Kombat 1, especially about the upcoming DLC, the Kombat Pack, which brings one of the most beloved anti-heroic superheroes of recent years, Homelander. He was already announced last year, and now we finally have gameplay footage and a glimpse of the voice. The DLC is coming soon and is already included for Premium Edition owners.
The new trailer gives us a first look at Homelander, the leader of The Seven superheroes from the comic The Boys. A comic created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson in 2006 that became a hugely popular Amazon series in 2019. It’s a superhero-themed series but set in a much crueler and mature universe, with morally ambiguous and often cruel superheroes, accompanied by a lot of gore and dark humor. These elements integrate perfectly with the Mortal Kombat universe, creating a crossover that many have been waiting for in Mortal Kombat 1.
In the new short trailer, we get to see a showcase of two of Homelander’s Fatalities against Liu Kang, as well as a humorous scene where the “superhero” drinks his beloved milk, a scene that fans will remember from the TV series and has been the subject of many theories. The new trailer also confirms that although Homelander is modeled after actor Antony Starr, he will not be voiced by him, as confirmed back in December 2023.
Homelander is certainly not the only character coming with the Kombat Pack; among the other 5 are Omni-Man from the Invincible series, creating one of the most anticipated multi-crossovers ever with Omni-Man vs Homelander. Additionally, 3 characters from the Mortal Kombat series are making their return: Takeda Takahashi, Ermac, and Quan Chi. Finally, Peacemaker from the DC series completes the roster of the 6 additional characters.
Unfortunately, we still don’t have a scheduled release date for this highly anticipated DLC, but with the fourth season of The Boys arriving in June 2024, it is hoped that the DLC will arrive around the same time.
