Rockstar North game director didn’t expect GTA Online to last for ten years.

In a recent interview, Scott Butchard, the GTA Online design director, admitted that Rockstar North never expected the game mode to reach its 10th anniversary.
In the interview with GamesRadar, Butchard said, “When we started out, I don’t think we could have ever dreamed we’d still be going ten years on. The success of GTA Online is nothing we ever expected.”
A large part of GTA Online’s success is the continued free updates for the game mode, and Butchard said Rockstar is committed to making “sure GTA Online updates are free and accessible to everyone.”
GTA Online will be ten years old on October 1.
