Avowed on PS5 with Anniversary Update 2.0 Review – All New Features at a Glance
Avowed is a first-person action RPG from Obsidian Entertainment, set in the Eora universe, known from Pillars of Eternity. On February 18, the game was released for Xbox Series and PC. With the release of Avowed on PlayStation 5 and the massive Anniversary Update 2.0, the developers are taking the next big step. The update brings new features such as New Game Plus, new races, photo mode, and much more.
Avowed PS5 Version – Tech, Features & Launch Details
On March 17, 2026, Avowed officially launched on PS5. The free Anniversary Update was released simultaneously. The PlayStation 5 version includes all previous patches, and of course, Update 2.0 is available right at launch. The game runs at a smooth 60 FPS with high graphics and top performance. Furthermore, the game has been optimized for the DualSense controller with typical PS5 features like adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. Thanks to the SSD in the PlayStation 5, loading times are very short compared to older platforms. So far, players have given Avowed very positive reviews on the PlayStation 5, with 4.74 stars.
Anniversary Update 2.0 – New Content & Gameplay Enhancements
In addition to the PlayStation 5 release, Avowed has been available on Xbox Game Pass since yesterday. However, the biggest new feature of Avowed’s Anniversary Update 2.0 is New Game Plus. This allows you to start a completely new playthrough while keeping your equipment and abilities. New challenges are also added. Furthermore, the new update introduces three new races:
- Dwarves: Robust and strong in melee combat
- Orlans: Small and nimble with racial bonuses
- Aumaua: Massive, physically strong characters
Additionally, a new photo mode was added with camera positions, filters, and UI toggles, all designed to let you take perfect screenshots in-game. Another innovation is the “Quarterstaff” weapon type, which combines melee and magic mechanics. There were also several gameplay expansions, such as stunt finishers and new enemy mechanics. Enemy respawn behavior has also been optimized. Furthermore, workbanks for armor upgrades are now available on the go. Additionally, several Quality-of-Life & balancing updates were included, such as adjustable difficulties, UI improvements, bug fixes, and lighting/performance tweaks.

With the PS5 release and the Anniversary Update 2.0, Avowed is gaining noticeable momentum. The combination of technical optimization, New Game Plus, and expanded character options ensures that the game feels significantly more polished today than at its original launch. For PS5 players, it is the perfect entry point, as they receive the most comprehensive version to date right away. At the same time, Obsidian Entertainment underscores its long-term support with this major update. If this course continues with further content or DLCs, Avowed has a good chance of establishing itself permanently in the action RPG market.
