With the recent release of Season of Discovery Phase 2 on World of Warcraft Classic on 8 February 2024, Blizzard’s team released a series of hotfixes and adjustments for this new update with a patch on 20 February.

Season of Discovery Phase 2: What it Introduced

Season of Discovery is a series of seasonal updates for World of Warcraft Classic, introducing new ways to play the classic experience by providing servers where all players can test themselves with new changes to gameplay and build construction.

What SoD Phase 2 particularly introduces is a raised level cap to level 40, new Runes, and 31 Talent Points. Not to mention the Gnomeregan Raid adjusted for SoD, which introduces Automatic Crowd Pummeler as a drop, no longer limited to just 3 uses unlike the Manual Crowd Pummeler. Also, PvP events like the return of the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza, the fishing contest that rewards with many prizes and useful equipment.

Season of Discovery Phase 2: Impact of Class Changes

With the Patch on February 20, 2024, Blizzard primarily increases both the drop of materials and the drop rate of Boxes of Gnomeregan Salvage. Then it focuses on 6 classes with improvements and adjustments:

  • Druid: Berserk increases Lacerate targets, Starsurge boosts Starfire damage by 80%, Swipe damage increases by 10% and increases Threat, Rip now lasts 16 seconds.
  • Hunter: With the Melee Specialist Rune, Raptor Strike damage is treated as weapon damage.
  • Paladin: Receives fixes to usage combinations. Using Fiery Weapon enchantment (with or without Fiery Blaze) and Seal of Martyrdom no longer automatically activates the other.
  • Priest: Mind Spike and Void Plague damage increases by 10%. For Shadow Word, Death base damage increases by 40% and the spell power coefficient is adjusted to 42.9%.
  • Rogue: Shuriken Toss bounce distance reduced to 10 yards.
  • Shaman: Fire Nova correctly benefits from Elemental Mastery, the Dual-Wield Specialization Rune offers a 50% damage bonus for strikes with the weapon equipped in the second slot. Lava Lash increases by 50% if Flametongue Weapon is applied to the weapon equipped in the second slot. Finally, if your main weapon (even a two-handed one) is under the effect of Windfury Weapon, the chance to activate Maelstrom Weapon increases by about 50%.
