According to Corden, the sources pushing these rumors are unverified YouTube channels chasing clicks. His own inside track at Microsoft confirms the franchise is firmly on ice.

The harsh reality is that Prototype 2 launched back in 2012 and failed to find a massive commercial audience. Activision eventually laid off staff at Radical Entertainment.

The series has been dormant ever since.


The “New Radical Games” Confusion Explained

So, why did everyone suddenly think a sequel was happening in 2026? It all comes down to a studio rebranding.

Former Radical Entertainment leads recently formed a new studio dubbed New Radical Games. They updated their website and proudly featured classic titles they worked on, like Prototype and The Simpsons: Hit & Run.

Fans saw the name, saw the games, and jumped to massive conclusions.

However, this new team has no formal relationship with Microsoft or Activision. Since Microsoft owns the IP following the Activision Blizzard buyout, New Radical Games cannot legally build a sequel on their own.
