Giant Squid originally launched Sword of the Sea for the PlayStation 5 and PC on August 19, 2025. The surfing adventure debuted as a day-one addition to the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalogs.
Microsoft recently verified an impending Xbox Series X|S port by temporarily publishing the game’s official store page. The Xbox Store listing confirmed native optimization for the Series X and Series S hardware.
The feature list includes 4K resolution support, 60 frames per second targeting, cloud saves, and Xbox achievements. Microsoft has since removed the public page.

The Fictions Publisher Mystery
The Xbox Store listing revealed a major shift in the game’s distribution strategy. Fictions serves as the publisher for the Xbox Series X|S version. Giant Squid independently published the original PlayStation 5 and PC releases without external partnerships.
Industry records show no prior releases under the Fictions banner. The unannounced publisher reportedly maintains ties to Haveli Investments following the acquisition of the Private Division label.
This structural change fuels speculation regarding a potential Xbox Game Pass release, as Microsoft historically incentivizes console ports through subscription catalog deals.
