Silent Hill f Is Not a Soulslike, Says Producer

Series producer Motoi Okamoto has said in a recent interview that the upcoming Silent Hill f is not a Soulslike and that calling it one is “disingenuous.”

Okamoto was speaking to IGN when he revealed that, despite the game having a stamina meter, the feature was “pulled from classic Silent Hill titles.”

What Okamoto Actually Said

During the interview, Okamoto said that while Silent Hill f has particular combat mechanics, such as the stamina meter, they don’t make it a Soulslike, and that such features have been “part of action horror games for a very, very long time.”

Okamoto reiterated that the upcoming game is an action horror. In a previous interview, he said the developers had decided to focus more on action to bring in younger fans to the series.

Why Fans Thought It Could Be a Soulslike

Konami’s switch to a more action-oriented gameplay in the upcoming Silent Hill f has caught the attention of fans, with many insisting its dodge, stamina meter, and parry features point towards a game more in the style of a Soulslike.

However, to counter the arguments, Okamoto insists that the series has often had similar features and systems, such as Silent Hill 3, which had a stamina meter, and Silent Hill 4, which had a charge meter for attacks. While many remain unconvinced, Okamoto finished by saying it is an “action horror game,” but “not a Soulslike.”

Release Date

Fans, old and new, will soon be able to play and determine the game’s genre for themselves when Silent Hill f launches on September 25, 2025, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
