Solid Snake brings his legendary stealth tactics to Rainbow Six Siege in Operation Silent Hunt, alongside Sam Fisher

You can practically hear the alert sound effect just reading the headline, right? After years of rumors and fan requests, Ubisoft has finally pulled the trigger. Solid Snake is coming to Rainbow Six Siege.

It’s not just a skin, either. He’s a fully playable Operator arriving with Operation Silent Hunt on March 3. Seeing the Metal Gear Solid legend standing next to Operators like Ash and Sledge feels a bit surreal, but his kit actually makes perfect sense for the tactical pacing of Siege.

If you’ve been waiting for a reason to jump back into the rotation, this might be the push you needed.

The Soliton Radar: Intel is King

Snake isn’t bringing a cardboard box (unfortunately), but he is bringing something arguably better: the Soliton Radar MKIII. For veteran Metal Gear fans, seeing that top-down grid in the corner of the screen hits hard with nostalgia.

In Siege, it functions as a handheld device. It displays a floorplan of your immediate surroundings, highlighting connected stairs and the layout. This is huge for players who still get turned around on complex maps like Lair or Nighthaven Labs.

But it’s not just a map. The radar lights up to warn you. Green means you’re clear. Yellow warns of active cameras watching you. Red? That means enemies are close.

There’s also a “precision mode.” This shows enemy icons and their vision cones in real-time. It sounds powerful, but it’s not foolproof. You have to be looking at the gadget to see the intel, leaving you vulnerable. Plus, deception plays a big role here.

Defenders like Vigil, Mute, and Alibi can trick the radar. If you see “All Clear,” you might still be walking into a trap

Scavenging on the Fly

Snake’s playstyle has always been about adapting, and his passive ability, “On-Site Procurement(OSP), reflects that perfectly. Most Operators start with a full kit. Snake starts light.

He begins the round with only one item in one of his gadget slots. To get more, you have to scavenge. When an Operator is eliminated, they drop a utility pouch. Snake can loot these to fill his empty slots.

Need a frag grenade? Loot it off a roamer you just cleared. Need an EMP? Find it on the field. He can hold up to five different secondary gadgets at once: frags, stuns, smokes, impact EMPs, and breach charges.

It forces you to play dynamically. You aren’t locked into a specific utility role at the start of the round.Your loadout evolves based on how the match plays out.

Speaking of loadouts, Snake brings the F2 assault rifle. Yes, the Twitch gun.Even better, the F2 is getting a buff this season with access to angled and horizontal grips to help manage that kick. He also carries a new secondary, the TACIT .45, which comes with an integrated suppressor. Perfect for taking out cams quietly.

Legends Collide

The crossover goes deeper than just one Operator. Later in the season, we’re getting a limited-time event that teams Snake up with Zero (Sam Fisher).

Watching the two biggest stealth icons in gaming history work together in Siege is something special. The event features a 4v4 mode on a modified Nighthaven Labs map, tweaked to feel more like a Metal Gear location.

There are also skins coming, including a Psycho Mantis outfit for Smoke and a Gray Fox set for Jackal. On the balancing side, Operation Silent Hunt is tweaking the meta.

Skopós is moving to a 3-speed rating, making her rotations much faster. Shield operators are taking a hit, losing the ability to bash through full-health barricades (unless you’re Blackbeard).

Kept You Waiting, Huh?

This feels like one of the most natural collaborations Ubisoft has done in years. Snake’s emphasis on stealth, intel, and adaptability fits right into the core loop of Rainbow Six Siege.

He isn’t just a run-and-gun character; he requires patience and map knowledge to use effectively. The Soliton Radar gives new players a helping hand with navigation, while high-level players will likely abuse the precision intel.

Operation Silent Hunt launches March 3. Make sure your CQC is up to scratch.
