Responding to fans who praised the studio for not self-censoring, Douse explained that this isn’t about being edgy for the sake of it. “The phrase ‘treating the audience with a level of intellectual respect’ came up a lot in planning,” he stated.
Douse argues that modern gamers are capable of handling a three-dimensional world that reflects the complexities—and sometimes the grotesqueries—of life. “It isn’t about trying to shock them,” he added, “it’s about trying to match their powers of comprehension so that it resonates.”

Honestly, should we be surprised? This is the same team that gave us the infamous bear scene inBaldur’s Gate 3 and the darkly twisted Dark Urge origin story. Larian has proven time and again that they know how to handle 18+ content without it feeling cheap.
