CHATGPT AND THE FUTURE OF ROLE-PLAYING GAMES
Everyone is talking about AI, and it seems developers, publishers, and gamers all have an opinion on how AI can be used to create or improve video games.
Fortunately, a Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord modder called Bloc has created a mod that uses a “custom story engine” to generate NPC dialogue and interactions.
Now, it isn’t perfect. For example, in the video, there are some lengthy load times between generated dialogue, and some interactions come across as robotic and, for the most part, AI-generated.
But that isn’t to say there isn’t a place for ChatGPT or any other automated writing AI in gaming, but the more developers and modders experiment, the better it will improve.
As for the foreseeable future, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick recently said AI would, at most, aid developers rather than replace writers or devs.
