Key Takeaways
- Rockstar Games reportedly targets a PC release for Grand Theft Auto VI between January and March 2027.
- The compressed launch window arrives just months after the console launch, breaking the studio’s historical delay pattern.
- Accelerating the PC timeline is primarily driven by FiveM roleplay integration and upcoming multiplayer infrastructure.
When Is GTA 6 Releasing on PC?
Rockstar Games targets a PC launch for Grand Theft Auto VI in the first quarter of 2027, according to an investigative report published by GamesBeat. This target window places the Windows edition between January and March 2027, arriving mere months after the console launch in November on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
GamesBeat corroborated the production window through four industry sources familiar with studio roadmaps. Take-Two Interactive has not issued formal guidance regarding the Windows conversion schedule.
A release within the initial quarter of 2027 ensures the title lands before Take-Two Interactive closes its fiscal year on March 31, 2027.

Breaking the Historical PC Delay Pattern
Rockstar Games historically required PC players to endure long exclusivity windows for console releases. Grand Theft Auto V required nineteen months to transition from its September 2013 console debut to its April 2015 Windows launch.
Red Dead Redemption 2 followed a comparable release cycle in October 2018, arriving on PC thirteen months later in November 2019. The projected four-month gap for Grand Theft Auto VI represents the most aggressive PC turnaround in the studio’s history.

Why Is Rockstar Accelerating the GTA 6 PC Launch?
Rockstar Games is accelerating the PC launch of Grand Theft Auto VI to support its online infrastructure and capture high-engagement roleplay audiences. Expanding the hardware base before the upcoming multiplayer mode launches allows Take-Two Interactive to maximize recurring user monetization across console and computer platforms simultaneously.
Twitch chief executive officer Dan Clancy stated in an interview with Bloomberg that the next iteration of GTA Online will launch next year. A prompt desktop release establishes a verified hardware foundation before competitive multiplayer environments go live.
Rockstar Games acquired Cfx.re, the development team responsible for the FiveM framework, in August 2023. PC hardware hosts 100 percent of FiveM roleplay activity, making desktop availability vital for community-driven multiplayer retention.
Take-Two Financial Targets and Production Realities
Take-Two Interactive chief executive officer Strauss Zelnick highlighted to Bloomberg that PC software generates up to 50 percent of total sales on select corporate titles. The estimated two-billion-dollar production investment for Grand Theft Auto VI increases the pressure for rapid platform monetization.
Leaked analytics published following a cybersecurity intrusion reveal that PC players accounted for roughly 11 percent of active GTA Online users. Early deployment on computer hardware allows Take-Two Interactive to expand digital player engagement across that segment.
Rockstar Games previously adjusted the console schedule from 2025 to May 2026, before setting the final November 19 premiere. The Q1 2027 PC target reflects an aggressive internal timeline that remains contingent on ongoing optimization and debugging phases.
