Frostpunk fans will be having a blast this summer with the arrival of its second DLC, Breach of Trust. This upcoming expansion is bringing all the bells and whistles with battalions, new maps, and a volcano! Here’s everything that was revealed so far including the closed playtest registration which is now open.

 

Frostpunk 2 Breach of Trust Release Date and Playtest

The recently concluded Frostpunk Franchise Fest gave us loads of exciting news including the Frostpunk Franchise Sale with deals up to 90% off, the announcement of Nintendo Switch version for Frostpunk, the graphic novel, Frostpunk 1886 announcement, new merch, updated roadmap, and some words from the folks over at 11bit Studios.

But the absolute highlight of the event was the reveal of Frostpunk 2 Breach of Trust. This is the second DLC for the game after Fractured Utopias and will be launching on June 23, 2026 for PC, Playstation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

While Fractured Utopias was great as it expanded what you can do in the game, Breach of Trust is just on a whole new level. There’s a new story, new scenario maps, new laws, new buildings, and just the combination of a frozen land and a volcanic eruption is brilliant.

   

And probably what most of the fans are excited about is the inclusion of Battalions. YES WE CAN BUILD AN ARMY! This scenario and the volcano add so much more depth to the narrative that at this point, how can they even top this. They did reveal the 3rd DLC currently called “Surge”, so maybe the melting of the ice? Sounds good too. It’s bound to release this year so we’ll know more about that in the coming months.

If you’re interested (who’s not?!) to see how Breach of Trust is shaping up, 11bit Studios has opened the registration for the closed playtest. The exact dates have not been announced yet but it’s slated for “the next few weeks.”

Frostpunk 2 Breach of Trust puts players in charge of New Edinburgh, a city built near an increasingly unstable volcano after heavy geothermal use, adding a new layer of danger alongside the usual frozen survival. You take over as First Citizen after the Old Captain’s removal, with a Vote of Trust system constantly checking your approval and making leadership more politically tense. Volcanic threats like tremors and ash-filled “Volcano Night” events disrupt the city, sometimes pushing people toward a nearby colony, Aurora, which becomes central to survival through trade, pressure, or conquest.

The expansion also introduces five distinct factions that shape how your society reacts to laws and decisions, along with new buildings, laws, and scenario maps, making the experience more focused on managing power, instability, and competing interests.
